My poor T61 is having some issues, so I'm in the market for a new laptop. A T520 seems like the obvious replacement, but I'm having a hard time deciding on a couple of hardware choices.

I'm very happy with the 1680x1050 resolution of my current laptop. I don't really like the idea of losing resolution by going with the 1600x900 display, but I am very wary of buying high gamut displays because of the radioactive oversaturated colours you tend to get in everything other than Photoshop and Firefox. I gather a 95% panel is nowhere near as bad as a 110-120% IPS desktop display, but I've read complaints from owners about oversaturated colours with the T520/W520. I have a 2408WFP that's seen limited use outside short photo editing sessions because of this issue (plus its sRGB emulation mode sucks). I do a lot of photography, but most of my editing is for the web, and I care a lot more about browsing and watching videos.

I'm also a little unclear on whether I should be going for the HD 3000 integrated or NVS4200M. I have read there is very little difference in performance. Battery life is definitely high up on my priority list with a laptop. Are there any other factors to consider with this choice?

I opted for the NVS 4200M as when I configured the exact same models with the same options there was only a $20 difference between the HD 3000 only system and the NVS system which made it a no brainer for me. There's a little more difference now, ~$25-$30, but I'd still pick that config. It's nice to have the option if needed for light gaming, etc.

Also, something to keep in mind is that on the T520 you only get the combo eSATA/USB combo port with the NVS systems. This was another factor in making my decision. While I don't have anything that uses the port now I tend to keep my machines for many years and wanted to make it as future proof as possible.
