    I bought a T530 recently and it has 1 8gb Samsung DDR3 Pc3 12800 Installed. ( 11-11-11-28)
I want to upgrade it to 16 GB.

So, should i buy new 16 Gb ( 8x2) dual channel ram or should i buy one more 8gb (11-11-11-28)?
Is there any negative impact if i buy one more single DDR3 ram of Corsair or Gskill?
    Guru's please advice.

    Thanks!

If you have money to spare and you want to be extra certain (and you don't mind mucking around with the keyboard), get a 2 x 8GB kit. Then put the stock 8GB stick in a drawer, or donate it to charity.

If you are pragmatic, get a single 8GB 1600MHz RAM stick and insert it into the second slot on the underside of the T530.

No. (But I'm sure there'll be lengthy replies, with benchmark numbers no less, convincing you otherwise. :D)

I have Samsung + Mushkin in one ThinkPad, and Elpida + G.Skill in another, and I don't feel crippled at all.

I also have Samsung + Mushkin in my laptop, and mixing brands won't have any negative effect in this day and age. I'd just get the 1x8GB stick and put it in your T530.

Get the free hwinfo program from: HWiNFO32/64 4.10.1820 Free download - tested and reviewed software downloads from SnapFiles

It will accurately tell you what CL (cas latency) your memory stick has, as well as other useful detail (e.g. chipset) of your T530.

Match both the speed and CL and size, as well as voltage, of the extant 8GB memory stick, and you're unlikely to take any performance downgrade hit of your memory.

It's OK to mix memory brands, so long as the other details match.

Newegg is the best place of getting accurate CL info, other than the web site of the manufacturer.

I installed the new 8 gb Ram and ran memtest86 +.
It completed 13 Passes with no errors in 36 hours.
It's working fine in dual channel mode.

    Thanks all for help!

Update:-8gb Gskill ram for T530 was not working correctly.
The video crashes for laptop when it's on battery and i am playing a video.
I RMAed Gskill twice but no sucess.
Then i ordered the Kingston ram from newegg. Kingston Model KVR16S11/8 Laptop Memory - Newegg.com
It passed the metest for 48 hours ( no errors).
I also plays video fine while in battery mode.
So, if someone has the same issue with T530 , order the ram i mentioned above.

    1. What do you mean? i.e. that G.Skill replaced your bad memory stick twice, and that both replacement sticks also didn't work???

    2. Did you buy the G.Skill memory from Newegg?

Yes, i bought it from newegg. Newegg replaced Gskill memory twice , but it didn't worked well.
Then i finally bought the Kingston one and it worked perfect.

In my experience, G.Skill makes good memory, and their prices are excellent.

The 1st ref that you posted in this thread (about your purchase of/G.Skill at newegg) includes 4 comment/reviews by owners as well as a decent response by G.Skill (to the one unhappy owner).

To me, G.Skill is a reputable memory maker.

I suggest that you contact G.Skill directly, and that by doing that you are likely to get satisfaction.

Given that you've gotten a workable solution with Kingston memory, tell G.Skill that and maybe suggest an alternative solution that they might provide, that you can live with???

Meaning that you never know until you ask.
