I know I kind of asked this question in another thread, but that thread took on a life of its own and this question was never really addressed. So, here is my question:
I have the AUO 1600x900 display and it seems rather shimmery and I have two questions related to that.
    1) This is my first LED lit display could it be more noticeable because of that?
    2) How does the AUO display compare to the other two manufactures that Lenovo uses? In other words are they going to be just as shimmery?

I am asking because I am not sure what to do. If this is something I should just get used to or should I see if Lenovo would replace my display with one of the other two displays. Thanks for the help and patience.

The shimmery effect is most likely down to AUO's anti glare coating, it's quite pronounced compared to the other manufacturers such as LG or Samsung as demonstrated by a Japanese review (magnification taken from a T430 but the anti glare techniques should be similar). That said the displays on the T530 should be quite decent, its probably just a matter of time before you get accustomed to it.

Thanks for the reply. That review and thread were interesting. What I especially found intriguing is was what Nate2012 said, that when they put all the screens side by side the general feeling was the AUO looked better. So, I guess the bottom line is live with what I have, because another display may not be any better :)
The article does bring up another question for me, since AUO makes my screen and the highly spoken of FHD screen, does it also have a shimmer/grainy affect to it? I ask only because I have somewhat thought of putting one of those in. Thanks again.

The AUO FHD (B156HW01 V.4) on T/W510/520/530 does have a bit of "antiglare/shimmer/coating" effect. It is a great screen and is fine by itself, but when you put it next to the AUO FHD (B156HW01 V.7) on, say, Dell XPS 15 L502X, the glossy V.7 is superior. BTW, the V.7 is glossy in a subtle way and is not annoyingly reflective.

Have you seen the FHD and HD+ AUO displays side by side? If so how do they compare? Is the antiglare/shimmer/coating effect about the same? Also, would the AUO FHD (B156HW01 V.7) work in a T530 orwould it be white listed?

To me, the FHD is a better screen. The HD+ is quite good, actually, and does not have the "small text" "problem" certain users worry about. The antiglare/shimmer/coating effect is about the same on both, but not to the point of being bothersome.

It does work perfectly. (Looking at one on a T520 right now.)

The FHD displays are *really* quite nice. They're definitely some of the best TN panels that I've seen -- rivaling the nice 15.4" WSXGA+ panels that Samsung shipped a couple years ago.

I am curious have you had the chance to view the FHD along side the HD+ (AUO) and if so do they have a similar shimmer/anti-glare/grainy effect?

Not alongside, no. But I can try to see if I can scrounge up a FHD machine at the office to which to compare my work laptop (which does have the HD+ display).

Cool and thanks. Oh, is your HD+ an AUO display?

I'm afraid not. According to the FRU it's a Samsung (93P5681), although I can't confirm this since I can't seem to dump the EDID...
