So I'm looking to purchase a T540p for school use, and before people tell me to wait for the x50 gen to come, I need the laptop rather soon, and I also have a i7 4700MQ that comes from my now dead Sager NP7352 6 months out of warranty. I am getting the Sager repaired using Visa's extended warranty, but I want something more reliable to use full time. I plan on getting the T540p with the i7-4700MQ and keep the old CPU to salvage for a replacement CPU if I need it one day.

Anyways, back on topic. I definitely want a FHD display, but from everything I've read so far, the TN FHD panel supplied by Lenovo is pretty atrocious. I do not want to bump up to the 3k display because its more trouble and cost than it's worth to me. Would I be able to take the base 768p screen and source an aftermarket IPS display and install it without Lenovo knowing and voiding my warranty? Obviously I would put back the original 768p screen before sending for warranty if necessary.

If so, does anyone know what panel I can use for the swap?
