Considering the following specs on a Thinkpad T60, please provide some input on the question to come:

    Specs:

Pentium Core Duo 1.83 GHz processor
    80GB hard drive
    1GB RAM
    14.1" XGA display
    8X DVD-RW/CD-RW drive
    802.11 a/b/g Centrino wireless
64MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 M52 graphics card
4 year ThinkPad Protection (warranty/accidental damage insurance)

    QUESTIONS
    1) Is this machine powerful? (occassional games, music, storage, student purposes)

    2) Would this machine be consider Windows Vista capable (could it fully utilize the Aero glass features and other cool graphics aspects of Vista)?

    3) My school is offering this Thinkpad for a special price of about 1700 bucks. Is this a good deal? Should I buy another computer or is this the way to go? What is the MSRP of such a comp?

Thank you for all your help.

I can answer two of your questions:

    1. Yes your machine is powerful enough for occassional games but don't expect desktop performance in the latest 3D games. Search this forum - there are a lot of post about ATI X1300 performance in games.

    2. Yes it will. Check this article.

    3) no it is not a good deal. 1700 is a rip off actually for that. i JUST got that computer from this site for 200 less that. it only has 512 ram but you can easily upgrade it for about 80 bucks which still saves money.

Although it looks like you certainly got your for less - with the RAM upgrade your price is about $120.00 less. Definately a noticeable savings, but I certainly wouldnt call it a "rip off".

In addition, it looks like his specs call out a longer warranty as well. I may have read it wrong (and apologize if I did), but the buy.com specs show a std. 3 year warranty. His specs show a 4 year warranty with accidental Damage Ins/coverage. If that is the case, then frankly he is probably getting a better deal than you did and you might be the one who was "ripped off"! ;) j/k.
