I really like the business look of Thinkpad and ready to get one for personal use (play F.E.A.R, research, work, etc). I already have a Dell D610 from work, but hated it, cuz I've replaced LCD, motherboard within a year already.

So I recently looked at IBM T60, Lenovo is providing discount that I can get a T60 15" 2GHz T7200, 1G Ram, ATI X1400, XP Home for around $1500. (about 2x more $ compare to similar performance Everex XT5000T for $699)

But if I wait for T61 @ similar or a bit better configuration (newer graphic card), will the price be around $2000? (Just a guess-estimates)

I would get the RAM from NewEgg, it is goes for about $140 for 2GB and you can sell the sticks that come with the machine. As far as the Santa Rosa specs, the rumor goes that the graphics are about 2-3X faster than nVidia 6150 (about half the speed of a X1400). The upside would be that the battery will last about 20 extra minutes than today (using integrated graphics).

From the benchmarks that I've seen, the AMD chip is rather far from the C2D speed. I would also go with the Lenovo because those things tend to last, a while, I am not sure of the Everex.

If you can't wait till next winter when the big sales take place, you should go for the T60. You could probably get it for even less than $1500.

I don't know how much T61 will cost but it's going to be pricey.

Also, since you are interested in the 15" screen, you might want to call them and ask them if they have any T60's configured with Flexview screen. That screen has high viewing angles and many people praise it so you probably want that.

Thanks for the comments. I think I may just go for T60 with ATI x1400 and get the 2GB Ram from newegg (I always fond of Thinkpad Classic design since 90s). The "design" never outdated :p

I'm also keeping my eyes on Sager/Clevo (manufacturer behind Alienware, etc) since they are having promotion prior to Rosa introduction.

I heard Sager/Clevo are very high end machines and have the same build quality standard as ThinkPad. And thoughts?
