Can the T60 w \ Windows 7 64 bit fully address 4 gig of RAM. I thought I read that it depends on the chipset used.

    Any information would be helpful.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeff G.

I'm fairly certain the T60 can utilize 4GB of RAM in a 64-bit OS environment, yes.

The T60 (my previous machine) chipset is limited to 3gb. Most T60 processors also didn't support 64bit.

I was under the impression that while they said they didn't take 4GB, 4GB of RAM would still work fine in them. And don't the Core 2 Duo T60 processors support 64-bit?

You can install more than 3gb (and there might even be a marginal performance increase with dual-channel), but the chipset cannot address more than that.

Most T60's came with Core Duo's. C2D in that model was rather rare from the factory, but a popular upgrade.

Also confirming that the T60/p is limited to 3GB of RAM, max. If the OP's T60/p has a Core 2 Duo T7200, 7400, or 7600, it will run an x64 OS without a problem.

While the T60/p's Napa chipset will address up to 4GB of RAM, Lenovo(and I believe other manufacturers) locked it out to use only 3GB. I believe this was due to fears of some people getting lawsuit happy since x32 OS's(I'm pretty sure you couldn't order an x64 OS on a ThinkPad at that time) wouldn't address a full 4GB of RAM.

However, if you're wanting to gain the tiny speed boost of dual channel, you can put two matching 2GB sticks in a T60/p. It'll only see 3GB, though.

the bios of the T60/X60/Z61/R60 restricts the system to 3 gigs of ram regardless of OS (32 bit or 64 bit).
