    New T60 is a great laptop. The dock sucks. I gave up my T43 and dock last week. My T43 dock had a decent audio input jack.

    I need to be able to record my vinyl albums and make cd's.

    The T60 dock and lack of audio line-in jack (not mic) really sucks.

    Is an external sound card an option? There are USB options as well as PC card options.

    I bought, arguably, one of the best laptops. Why should I have to spend more for a dollar part on a dock? I understand why they don't have the "line in" on the T60 itself, but to not have an audio "line in" on the dock is criminal.

    Can they do a BIOS update and turn the "mic in" on the dock into a "line in"?

    While I can understand your issues, the t60 is a business class laptop, and is not really intended for multi-mediaish uses. I have no idea about the BIOS update, but I would find it extremely unlikely.

    Does that mean I can't use my T60 for recreation?

    The T43 was also a business laptop.

    I think your best option is to try external sound cards such as Creative Audigy. I believ they support many advanced audio functions (need double check). The advanced docks are mostly for external monitors and harddrives. You probably should return the dock and use the money on the sound card.
