you're also paying for the open GL GPU in the t60p, if that's not important to you get the t60

In most real-world situations, you won't notice a difference. It depends on what you use your computer for, though.

You're more likely to notice a difference with the 7200RPM drive, though.

it's worth it if you are going to perform tasks that I imagine you would. Otherwise it's not worth it.

does that answer your question? ofcourse not!

please give us more details, what you are gonna do on the computer? if it's just watching pr0n, 1.83 will be plenty

Unless you have a specific need, I would say it is not worth it. You can always upgrade the hard drive later which as noted will have a bigger impact on system performance.

Yeah as Smith2688 mentioned above, you will definitely notice a difference between the 5400 rpm drive and the 7200 rpm drive so get the 7200 at the very least. the 1.8gHz and 2.13gHz I imagine won't be that noticeable and therefore not worth the $300. But also consider how long you are planning on keeping your computer and so if you will be using it for a long time you may want to get the faster processor.

The 1.8 GHz has 2mb L2 cache. The 2.13 GHz has 4mb L2 cache. Is the 2.0 GHz option available? That one also has 4mb L2 cache.

Hey Furry, my T60 I got last month is the 2 gig with 4 meg cache. I do think it's useful with current programs perhaps, probably Vista too I bet (though I got XP Pro on mine). I also got the 7200 RPM drive because I do feel that would make a difference. But I'll tell you, my wife's T42 which is a Pentium M and 1.6 or something is cooler on the lap to use if you like to sit it there. Mine is not uncomfortable but I do wish it was as comfortable as hers, but just something to think about. Also I bet you I lose more battery life compared to her system as well. But when I install stuff, or I'm sure with those numerous recovery installs I've had to do I like the extra juice. Not to mention if I ever do upgrade to Vista.

But the T42 was perhaps the best thinkpad ever.

The return rate and defect rate we're seeing with the T61 is unimpressive. So if you buy a T61, be sure to get a new one from somewhere offering a generous return policy.

Also seems the T61 nVidia card is proving to have poor power consumption. Not uncommon for users to be reporting only 90 minutes on a new 6-cell. Imagine a 4-cell, lol.

I like the T60. But the X60 seems to have better build quality. Just too bad the X screen is kinda lousy.

Hopefully you dont experience the overheating that was reported in the ones earlier last year. Mine seems cool but i dont tax the gpu.

It's a nice configuration you got. I wish ibm gave me flexviews. I just get to use them at work in the labs, and i'm not given one. Sigh.
