What is the fastest C2D processor that is compatible with a 1953DAU T60? Here is the info according to CPU-Z:
    Chipset: i945GM Rev: 03
    Bios Version: 79ETE0WW
    Socket 479 mPGA

    I appreciate your input.

The fastest for that chipset would be the T7600, I believe. However, these are very expensive. Are you considering a processor upgrade?

Yes, I think it would prolong my computer's life and since i only paid $350 for it I have some money left over for upgrades. I was looking at T8100 on newegg for $200. Would that be a good step up from the T2300

The T8100 is incompatible with your particular notebook. The T60 is only compatible with older processors, such as the T5500, T7200, T7600 and others. Newer ones, such as the T8100, T8300 etc, all use a newer socket and newer chipsets.

If you don't use your notebook for processor dependant applications, then a processor upgrade will not be cost effective. Upgrading the hard disk or adding more RAM will provide a more noticible speed boost and cost less at the same time.

Thanks for the input. I did purchase 3GB RAM as I read that was the max for my system and I should have it tomorrow if the UPS gods are with me.

3 GB of RAM is more than enough for most applications. If you are running Windows XP, your system should feel fast. Even with Windows Vista, 3 GB is more than adequate for most tasks. Keep us informed about the RAM upgrade!

Will do. On a side note, where can I find information about screen upgrades as 1024x768 is seriously bugging me and I would love to replace the screen with a higher resolution one.

Does the T60 not have a screen resolution of 1400x1050. Check in "Display Properties" what resolution it is set at. If it can go higher than 1024x768, then set to that, and see if you prefer it.

The max is 1024x768 both inside the Display Properties and the Intel Graphics Media settings thing that the driver installed.

Ah. Screen upgrades are expensive. I don't know if it is possible to get an upgrade, either. If you have the 15" model, then you may be able to upgrade to the 1400x1050 screen.

Yea, I have the 15" model. And yes, screens are expensive, I'm in the process of replacing my friend's cracked LCD for his laptop and the cheapest screens Im able to find are $150. I will look for a replacement for my T60 after I am done his (use it as practice :) )

If you are looking for a replacement, then you won't have any problems there. There are many other notebooks to pick from these days. Are you thinking about another Thinkpad?

I do not plan on replacing my notebook, i was saying that I am replacing my friend's cracked screen. I just bought my T60 off of craigslist and I do not plan on getting rid of it soon.
