I recently purchased a Lenovo T60 87414SU model. Researching in the right notebook for business, I thought this model was the right.
    I recently had a Dell Inspirion 9300 with a single 1.86ghz processor.

    Problems and questions:

    1. Well installing software; i.e. Microsoft Office, printer drivers, etc... it took a long time for the software to load, either small software packages or large. Sometimes seems to freezes up.
Has any one else expereince this?

    2. I ordered additional RAM to install after my purchase to give me a another gig with a total of 2 gig. Machine would not boot up after installation. Removed the second 1 gig RAM and machine worked fine again. the RAM was a pc2 4200 533 mhz ddr2. I reordered additional RAM; pc2 5300 667mhz ddr2 2 gig, giving me a total of 3 gig. has not come in yet.
Was the reason it did not work due to 533mhz and was not compatiable?
the website where I purchased the ram indicated it was the right ram...

    3. Last thing, it appears to be slow overall. i tested my previous Dell Inspiron 9300 with a single 1.86 ghz (2m digit - 1m 43s) ; 1 1/2 year old machine it rated a lower timeframe then the Lenovo T60 with a 2.16ghz. (2m digit - 1m 55s). Has anyone esle expereince a slow performance?

ANY INFORMATION WOULD GREATY BE APPRECIATED...
    Patrick

Have you tried reinstalling Windows? Downloaded the latest drivers and BIOS updates?

I remember seeing that Lenovo is offering software to remove bloatware off of their systems, but don't remember where. If they do you should try it, as bloatware is probably bogging your system down.

Sorry if I am just a bit lost, but are you saying the original stick that came with your laptop is PC2 5300 667mhz? or PC2 4200 533mhz?

Either way, as far as I know, it is best to match ram. IE if your laptop came with a 1GB pc2 5300 667mhz, get another 1GB pc2 5300 667mhz.

I'd say you're better reinstalling the Windows XP SP2 by yourself (i.e. not using the Recovery function). In my experience a Thinkpad works better when you do a clean install and only setup the software you would actually use.
I've never used a T60 before, but I'd say T60 bundled software makes the machine very slow against the software it originally came with a T4x series (I own a T42p) now

The RAM problem is probably just incompatibility between the two sticks. I've used 533 and 667 RAM simultaneously on a T60 without any problems.

Thanks. Notebook had great reviews and I guess was expecting something a little better in performance.
Will look into the removing bloatware.

Again, I just purchased this about 7 days ago so it is fairly new.

I removed a anti-virus program and replaced with a simple software which seem to help increase the speed of the machine during operation (I don't mind the slow boot up)

As I indicated previously, I ran the Super pi speed test on my older Dell Inpsiron 9300 and the T60 87414su last night.

    On battery power
    Dell Inspiron at 2m digit = 1m 43s
    T60 - 1m 55s

    Electrical Power
Dell Inspiron at 2m digit = 1m 43s (same as battery power)
    T60 - 58s

Does not explain what I have experience with the machine but interesting how much a T60 gains in speed with electrical power.

The Core 2 Duo's have very agressive power management built into them so it's not at all surprising to me that there was a significant performance boost when on outlet power vs. battery.
