    Hello,
Through a previous thread, I determined that I am going to purchase a 14.1" SXGA+ T60. I was going to go for a config that included the T7200 proccessor and ended up costing about $1380 on the lenovo website.

However, I found that my school offers two superioir configurations at what seems to be an alright price. I was just looking to see what you guys think. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

    Thinkpad T60 (2007-6QU)
    List Price: $2,035.00
    UCSD Price: $1,599.00
    14.1” SXGA+ Core 2 Duo T7400 2.16GHz processor,120GB 5400rpm Hard Drive, 1GB RAM, multi-burner, ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB PCIe, fingerprint reader, Bluetooth, GB Ethernet, 802.11 a/b/g, XP PRO, 9 Cell Battery, 3yr Warranty.

    OR

    Thinkpad T60 (2007-8JU)
    List Price: $3,299.00
    UCSD Price: $1,999.00
    2.33GHz T7600 Core 2 Duo, 14.1” SXGA+, 100GB HD, 1GB RAM, multi-burner, ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 256MB, Modem, Gb Ethernet, 802.11 a/b/g, Bluetooth, fingerprint reader, XP Pro, 3-year warranty.

Are these good deals? And which is the better deal. didnt want to spend more than $1800, but if the latter is a really good deal, i might consider it...thanks again!

I would go with the first option. Thats a pretty good price, considering the specs. Also, there is almost no difference in performance between the T7400 and T7600.

yeah thats what I was thinking as well. Also, the configuration can't really be changed, but would it be difficult to sell of the 9-cell battery and buy a 6-cell. I don't want a battery that sticks out like the 9-cell does....

You can try to sell several ways: eBay, craigslist, this forum, etc..but be aware that you won't get retail price. Perhaps someone would trade you. me? :D

haha sounds good. I will let you know when I purchase (i think I am going to in the next few days)

does anyone know why i can't get a 14.1-inch config with the ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 256MB on the lenovo website (as it is offered here through my school).

Also, do people find that having the 3-year warranty is useful?

    Thanks.

I would definitely have the 3-year warranty for the peace of mind. If something were to stop working after a year (e.g. computer won't turn on anymore and a replacement system board is needed), you could send it for warranty repairs and save hundreds of dollars (in the case of a system board, it is about $700).

AFAIK, they ran out of screens or are allocating them for corporate orders.

Find a copy of the tabook (lists all Lenovo prebuilt models, including those for education purchases) online and then use the model number on the Lenovo education site in the search box. Omit the spaces and dash from the model number when searching, this will let you pull up models that may not be in stock at the moment but it will let you order them still. I just ordered a loaded T60P for $1750 with the student & alumni discount, 8744J2U.

    Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
    2 GB RAM
    256 MB ATI FireGL v5250
    100GB 7200
    Wifi a/b/g
    bluetooth
    fingerprint
    15.4 WSXGA+
    9 cell battery
    DVD-RW
    Vista Business
    3 Year warranty

I feel like you could get a better value by looking at these additional options. Be sure to use the model number in the search box of the Lenovo Education site so that you can see the actual price with your discount applied.

I would recommend going with a T7200 processor, you really don't gain much with a T7400 or T7600, but you would notice a larger improvement with an additional GB of RAM and/or a better video card.

    Good luck!
