I received a T60 yesterday free from work (IBM), much to my surprise as I didn't even ask for it.
The specs of the model are in my signature below.
I opened it and used it for less than 2 hours... then I got the blue screen of death. And it wont boot up again... When I push the power button, I dont get see any bios stuff nor a password, instead after several seconds all I get is a bunch of audible beeps.
BOOOO!!!!!! Obviously a lemon.
The one good thing about this unit was the powerful reception of the wifi. Even 60 feet away from my home netgear router, with the microwave on and me using the wireless phone, my wifi reception was still 88-89%.
From there, it goes downhill. Thing is, I have been apparently spoiled by the X60.
I think the X60 is a gem and masterpiece of engineering in comparison to this big heavy T60 clunker. I dislike the extra weight and bulk of the 9 cell on the T60, although strangely I like the 8-cell on the X60 because of the ability to hold the X in one hand by holding it snugly via the protuding battery. The X60 exudes quality and tightness of fit. I think I can appreciate why many computing magazine editors routinely pick the Thinkpad X series as their Editors Choice.
I called IBM service tonight (we have 24/7 onsite support) about this defective new T60, and they will be doing something about this sick puppy tomorrow morning.
Never before have I had a laptop die so quickly. A big thumbs down on the initial quality of the T60. Shame!

I wanted the X60 based on the reviews but in the end I wasn't ready to give up the real estate and power of the T60 since I rarely use my desktop. My T60 arrived this week and I couldn't be happier.
Good luck on the replacement/repair. I think you will be happy with the T60. Leave it at the office/home and take your X60 with you on the road. -

it's unfortunate that you seem to have gotten a bad computer, but i think it's a bit hasty and unfair to deem all t60s inferior due to this experience.
and after getting used to a 12" computer, I'm not all that surprised you aren't thrilled with the size of a 14 or 15" computer.
i hope you get a working replacement though. -
I agree with the previous post. Just because you got a lemon doesn't mean that every T60 is a lemon.
I will take it off your hands and pay for shipping if you don't want it. Or, you can give it to a homeless person and they can sell it for drugs and alcohol. -
i hope you get your replacement unit as soon as possible
my... what a powerful machine you got there, and it suddenly died. i know the feeling, i understand you in a way that you did not expect such disaster to happen in the early hours of its operation in your hands. if that happened to me, i'd definitely shout at anyone who's on the line in their customer support.
and the half for the drugs and alcohol

That's a dissapointment. I'm sure it is just a lemon, as I haven't heard such a horror story regarding the blue screen. Sound like software though? The machine will seem heavy in comparison to the X60 but I think IBM 14" notebooks are still lightweight in comparison to other manufacturers.
-
What is the model number for that particular machine?
-
Also consider that the t40 improved weight and thinness by 33% compared to the t30. Whereas the t60 is actually heavier and thicker than the t40. Boo!
Your T42 was a nice machine especially in its time. The T60 does not standout in its time, in my opinion.
2 system boards die (this one die within 100 minutes of being new)
2 hard drive crashes (drives replaced)
Defective wireless antenna
LCD blowout
For a "business" notebook, the T series as of late has not helped me conduct business. -
Apparently the USB ports on the T60 are ornamental only, not useful.
The machine will be replaced... next week. -
That's good. What is the model number for that one?
-
Thus far, my USB ports have been fine.
Even with the 9 cell, it's lighter than my t30, so I don't have a problem with the weight. It is rather large compared to the X series, but it's not as if that's a sudden change with the t60. -

Now do you remember what drives were actually in your T60? Was it a Fujitsu, Hitachi, or Seagate? Curious which one of those kept breaking. -
SkiBunny -
How would you compare the feel of the T60 (keyboard feel, overall quality) to the T42?
I ordered a new T60 to replace my dead T42, but I have yet to open the box the T60 came in. Debating whether to keep it or buy a macbook. -
All those problems were not the same machine... but they were all recent T series thinkpads.
No probs ever with the X. -
the model is not in the tabook because i looked.
maybe they give us rejects, lol -
The T60 is better built than the T42 and has a decent feel; i've used other t60's at work, but the new t60 they sent me was a lemon. So I vented here - that's a woman's perogative
T60 First Impression - Thumbs Way Down!
