Hmm...I knew this thing had a mic, thanks for pointing it out.

64 bit programs will require the Core 2 Duo. That being said, 64 bit isn't really going to become mainstream outside of the server market for probably at least 2-3 years, if not more. Core Duo (non 64-bit) will run the 32 bit version of Vista just fine.
-
And these 32-bit versions of Vista, what will the not include that the 64-bit has?
-
The only thing that Vista 64 will have over Vista 32 is support for 64 bit programs, at least to my knowledge.
-
On the mic, it seems pretty decent, but if you are playing audio at the same time (like when playing counterstrike), you MUST use headphones.
-
All drivers for Vista must be digitally signed and you are not allowed to submit x86 only driver. There are many more changes inside windows, which are not visible directly to the user (also not including 64bit stuff).
Here is a quote from MS documentation:
Ogh, I forgot one more point. There are talks that HD contents will be played on 64bit systems only. -
Sorry it took so long to get back to you...I tried it; the sound is very clear, but it is also VERY soft, even with the volume turned up all the way during both the recording and playback.

I would be happy to post a clip if you tell me how! The only thing I have read is that either the Core Duo or the Core 2 Duo will run VISTA just fine...the big question is: do you need 2 Gigs of Ram for all the Aero features and smooth, fast operation. I read a reviewer that said he had VISTA running on his Core Duo T2500 w/1 Gig of Ram and it worked fine. But others have said that MS is recommending 2 Gigs for ALL features to work and faster speed. For as little as ram cost I wasn't taking a chance and went with 2 Gigs, so I know I am safe. And yes, If you want to run 64 bit programs, you MUST have at least the Core 2 Duo.

Try going to the "Go Advanced" tab underneath the message box, there is a little icon shaped as a paper clip > click > go to the first browse button > find the saved file on your machine > okay/upload > type some message > post.

Thanks Darius for the informative post.

It tells me it cannot upload a .wav file...it is not on the list of acceptable files.
-
That was my fear. Okay, try zipping the .wav file. Left click the .wav file, > send to > zip /compressed file > upload the .zip file instead.

corymcnutt,
Did you get a 9-cell battery with T60?
If so, how do you like it?
I understand that the battery sticks out of the back like a sore thumb. Does it ?
I am ready to buy one now that it is on holiday sale.

I got a 9-cell in mine (T60 2007-7ju). It does stick out, but I like it, it makes it more comfortable to carry (since when you make a grabbing shape with your hand, your palm curves, it doesn't make a square, and the back of the 9-cell is curved).
-
Yes, I did get a 9 cell and I'd have to agree with
marlinspike, it does stick out but it really is no big deal. With what you gain in battery life, I think it's worth it. -
marlinspike and corymcnutt,
Thank you for helping me clear up my lingering uneasy feeling on this matter. Your strong endorsement assures me to go ahead to order one.

What specs are you thinking about getting pinesol?

Core™ 2 Duo T7200 2GHz
15" SXGA+ (1400x1050) IPS TFT FlexView
1.5GB DDR2
100GB 5400rpm SATA
CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Ultrabay Slim Drive
ThinkPad 11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi wireless ***
9 Cell Lithium-Ion
3-year protection
*** Although Thinkpad 11n is not listed on the configuration page, I am sure I can order one for another $30 through a sales rep. I was able to do so the last time though I ended up cancelling the order.

That's similar to my system, though I have the T7400 and 1gb of ram instead of T7200 and 1.5gb (and I immediately swapped my 120gb 5400rpm drive for a 100gb 7200rpm drive), and I have the intel wireless. I like it very much.
-
I am going to add another hard drive in the future since there is room for a 2nd one. I've heard that 7200rpm drives make noticeable noise when in use. Is that your experience, too?
I would not venture into arguments as to which wireless is better, Intel or Thinkpad. I've read enough in this forum. Given that 11n MIMO requires different built-in antennae, I have to get a machine with them wired. -
Well, to be honest I got the intel wireless because I was buying through EPP and it was cheaper for me to buy a pre-configured system (2007-7ju) than to do a custom configure, though honestly I don't care either way.
I don't really find the 7200 to be too noisy. If someone really is sensitive, they can get the features tool boot CD from hitachi.com (assuming they got a hitachi drive) and turn down the setting to silent mode which was very quiet.
And yeah, I'm running 2 HDDs too with the 120gb 5400rpm one in an ultra-bay drive. -
Hey all, I was just wondering if anyone knew if the 9cell battery from a previous thinkpad, for example the T43 works in a T60?
mike -
Nope...won't work. The 9 Cell can be used by a T60, R60 or Z60m.
