So, I have had my T60 for about 6 months now, and I have noticed that there are these 3 "ridges" that are located on the lid that make contact with 3 matching "trenches" that are towards the front of the laptop at the front of the palmrests. I am not quite sure what these are for - in all of the other laptops I have owned they have not had these or they had soft silicone / rubber "bumpers" to prevent damage if there is pressure on the lid. These are *hard* bumpers...
Any thoughts as to what is this feature here for? Maybe this is a nonsense thread but it is just a question out of curiosity

When closed and pressure is put on the laptop itself, those "ridges" and "trenches" fit together ensuring that the screen DOES NOT hit the keyboard.
P.S. your a college student and do you wish you had the functionality of a tablet PC versus your T60? Just inquiring becasue IDK if I want a Tablet or Notebook for college.
Thanks! -
Your sig shows that you have a T60p... is definitely not an old laptop - I dont think that you need to buy a new laptop now. However if i were to go buy a new one I'd actually go with the tablet like the X61... definitely WAY more portable plus has the tablet PC functionality for those classes when you can't exactly "type" notes (ex: Drawing diagrams / figures / doodling
)
EDIT: Back to the subject - the reason why I ask about these "bumpers" is that they are made out of hard materials, instead of soft materials. I personally think this would do more harm than good... right? I mean if you look at all other laptops they have soft "bumpers" instead of the hard plastic ones that Lenovo uses. Also, I noticed that the ones on each side of my T60 lid are actually not in the same place - the one on the right is lower than the one on the left!
