My T60 has the Intel (R) Pro/Wireless 3945ABG Network card installed.

I have successfully wirelessly networked this to my desktop using a Linksys WRT54GS Router .

After reading details of Wirless Security Settings on the Web I understand there are 2 types of setup with a home LAN , an "Ad-Hoc" network and an "Infrastructional" network. These can be recognised by the symbols which appear in the Network Connections page , the first appearing as 2 small computer symbols and the latter as a small "microphone-like" symbol.

I appear to have the latter.

However what confuses me somewhat is that on the laptop if I navigate C.P.>Network Connections>r.c. on the Wireless Connection >Properties select "Configure" on the Network Card which brings me to the Advanced Page of the "Intel Pro 3945ABG Card Properties Page" . Here , under the drop-down selection of "Property" the "Ad-Hoc Channel" is highlighted with the "Value" radio button for "802/11b/g"

    The other choices here are:-

    Ad hoc Pwr Mgmt
    Ad Hoc QoS Mode
    Mixed mode Protection
    Power mgmt
    Roaming Aggressiveness
    Throughput Enhancement
    Transmit Power
    Wireless Mode

Is this "Ad Hoc Channel" the appropriate selection here seeing as I don't appear to have an "Ad Hoc" setup .
Should I have one of the others selected and , if so , which one?

Finally , since the network appears to work OK does this setting compromise wireless security in some way ?

If its working and you aren't having any issues I wouldn't worry about it. You wouldn't be able to connect to the router if it were running in Ad-hoc mode. You could go through and set all of the settings on that page to the default, I'm pretty sure there is a default button in the area.

From what I believe, those are hardware level settings. So if you had to change a wireless setting related to the performance of the card that is where you would find it.
