    Hi Guys

I was moving files between USB hard drives and it took a while, so I went to the store.

The power supply unit for my T60 was covered with a pillow; when I came back from the store I smelled something overheating, and then I touched the power supply and it was very hot, almost burning hot.

Why would having it covered with a light-pillow cause it to over-heat so much?

Has anyone else experienced overheating of the power unit?

Thankfully it did not get fried and it still charges the battery, but it could have caught on fire I bet...

Let me know if you have any input

A pillow is also know as 'insulation'. It prevents the brick to transfer it's heat to the air causing a 100% normal overheating.

I've accidently left the power on with my T30 for days on end with the power brick burried somewhere within the sofa. Sure it would get blistering hot, but nothing every blew up or got burnt to a crisp. Best thing to do would be to have good air-circulation for your Thinkpad as well as your power brick.

My Lenovo T60 AC adapter (which now doesn't fit my T42) does get extremely h  t.
The unit is sitting on my desk with plenty of circulation. I smell a recall.

An ac adapter did catch fire not long ago.

The tiny adapter for the x60 (half the size as the T60 adapter) gets even hotter.

My adapter get's mildly warm, but it's really nothing when you consider that it's switching 90w at 20v.

But then, I haven't covered mine with a blanket or tossed it in the bottom of my clothes hamper, either :p

Guys never toss anything into the clothes hamper, rather always onto the floor... so i'll bet that's where your ac adapter is too

    ac adapter, yes
    clothes, no

computer case, books, motherboards and video cards (in boxes), a grip of bundled software, and a 26 port switch... yeah, I'm a slob

but not with clothes and dirty dishes
