    Hey all,

I'm looking to install Suse linux on my new T60. I plan to dual boot. But, should I hose my MBR, recovery partition, etc I want to make the recovery CDs. My question is, will those CDs return the laptop to its current (new) state, with Windows, and all that other software I don't really need, but want anyway? Thanks in advance.

Recovery cds usually return the machine to its original state.
Earlier models even delete all your partitions.
Now only partition C will be reformated.

I have heard, somewhere, that they will not return the machine to its factory state. Also, adding a boot loader, ie rewriting the MBR, will cause the lose of the thinkvantage button during boot. Will keep you posted...

Alright then.. Spoke with the chap that wrote the great guide about putting Suse on the T60. They will return the machine to its factory state, no questions asked. As far as the MRB, as long as you leave the recovery partion on your T60, your boot loader can boot it and you still have access to the IBM recovery console

    so u r saying...
if i install linux in the machine..
install grub or lilo and rewrite MBR..
    use it for some days...
and then if i want to go back to just windows...
    i can do that...?

my MBR will be fixed to boot directly to windows...? and all my new linux partitions will be gone?
total factory state? no errors? no questions asked?

if its true.. then god bless ibm...
