    Hi All,

Noob here needs some help. Tried searching through the posts, but couldn't quite find an answer to my questions:

    The Setup:
Just got a really good deal on a new T60 to replace my T40. I use my laptop for work - text processing and surfing mainly, no games, no serious graphics work. I don't wear glasses, and I'd like to keep it that way - hence I like really big fonts and really big icons.

The problem is that the T60 is SXGA, while the T40 is XGA. Everything is much smaller in SXGA, and as I've found out the hard way, running the T60 LCD at non-native resolution sucks. I've tried increasing the DPI and font sizes, but not everything scales proportionately, (and some don't seem to scale up at all) so some program screens are just too small to read, while others are so big that buttons on the corner of the window disappear.

    Attempted Remedies:
I've tried setting my T60 at 1024/768, but really can't get used to it, also concerned that the blurred images would add to eye fatigue (is this true?). For some reason, the blurred images carry over to my 21" external monitor, which I thought wouldn't occur.

I've tried leaving my T60 on native resolution and tinkering with the font sizes and DPI, but due to non-regular scaling it is overly deterministic depending on the program (i.e. have to change the settings for different programs)

    Question:
Is there anything I can do to salvage my T60 based on my user needs before I give it to my Dad and go back to my T40?

Are XGA based screens and software going to go extinct in the near future, meaning that I should just get used to the change now anyway?

Thanks for any advice. Much appreciated.

I suggest just use the native res for a week then see how you feel. When i got my new computer 2 years ago i went from a 800x600 monitor to 1280x1024 and i was hit hard, i couldnt see anything! But now i am so used to it i cant deal with anything lower. So if it doesnt hurt your eyes just try it out.

Yes I felt that way about SXGA+ on a 14" screen, but now it seems perfect.
