My T60 has developed a problem where the entire bottom third of the screen is either lighter than the rest of the screen or completely screwed up looking. It is affected by movement in the lid, or by tapping the back of the lid. Is there anything I can check first before I consider a new screen?

a connection problem if the movement of the lid is affecting it. You would need new cables that connects the laptop motherboard to the LCD... something in the hinge may be damaged. Do you still have warranty?

I have no warranty left. I am weighing just buying something off the Outlet. I've gotten 2.5 years of good service, but given that I probably will have to replace my battery as well I can see the $$ adding up. However, I am willing to try different things. What do you think I should try?

the standard warranty on a T60 is 3 years.

The repair cost for this should be around 100 to 200 dollars depending on what parts you need.

Maybe in Oz it is, but my warranty was up in May according to the Lenovo warranty look up.

So, should I try the LCD cable, the screen?

Perhaps in Australia, but not here.

I'd say if it happens when you move the screen the cable seems the more likely culprit, though it's difficult to diagnose with any certainty over the internet. The cable is cheaper than the screen. It would seem a better place to start. Even just re-seat it to see if it helps.
