I am a programmer and have been using a notebook as a full time machine for the last fourteen years. I started using Thinkpad T series five years ago (after using several notebooks from Toshiba first and HP) and will keep using as long as Lenovo will keep making it for its keyboard, build quality and reliability.

I live in Portugal and have no way to evaluate a machine other than to buy it without any return policy.

I need to upgrade my current machine (T42 15" 2373-F2G) and I face the traditional issue: screen size versus weight.

However I learned last year that this is not a simple issue. I bought a T43 14.1" having made the decision to trade weight for screen size. However when I received the machine (2668-F3G) I found that it was just one third of a pound (140 grams) lighter than my 15" T42. It was not worth the trade off and so I forwarded the T43 14" to a co-worker and kept using the T42 15".

I am searching for a new notebook and narrowed it down to two machines:

    T60 1951-FDG 14", 1024x768, Integrated Graphics
    T60 2007-FVG 15", 1400x1050 Flexview, X1400

These machines weight are stated as 2.090 Kgs and 2.380 Kgs which sounds too good to be true so I am afraid that these won't be their real life weight. So I would be grateful to anyone who could help me complete the table by getting true life weights for the T60 series (by actually measuring it with a balance).

Let's agree that a notebook weight will be measured with its standard optical drive in place (no travel bezel), and without any power adapter. This is the only way to actually be able to compare machines.

Also machine number should be stated including changes if any to the standard equipment.

    T42 15" 2373-F2G, 2,6 Kg, 5,97 lbs
    T43 14.1 2668-F3G, 2,46 Kg, 5,65 lbs

    Thank you in advance

I have a T60 15.4" . Lenovo.com says it is 5.5 lbs, and I would say that it is true. However you can get the weight down, by replacing the ultrabay drive with travel bezel(it's a piece of plastic to protect the bay).
I find 15.4" too bulky to carry around though.

My R60 is like 5.7 pounds, don't know why yours is so heavy.

I know about the bezel and I plan to use one in order to reduce an aditional 0,15 kgs.

I know about lenovo.com specs but I find dificult to understand the diferences of weight for the various T60s and I am afraid of errors so that I am asking for some true life measurement by one owner.

I am confortable with T60 15" bulk. Most of the time I use it on a desktop with a docking station and an external monitor.

When I go out for a meeting I would welcome a reduction in weight and that is why I bought the T43 14". But when I stay for half ou a full day on a client working I then really welcome the 15" screen wich gives a much more usable desktop (I fell the 14" is a litle on the small side).

So if anyone confirms me that a T60 15" Flexview can really weight 2.380 Kgs (with the travel bezel I then would reach +- 2.230) it will be a no brainer.

Also a T60 14" weighting 2.090 (with the travel bezel 1.940) would be a serious alternative for a X60 if I go for the thin experience.

Thanks again for every bit o help.
