I have a students laptop(I work at a school) and the touch pad isn't working anymore.
First thing I checked was if it was disabled in BIOS. The option for it isn't even showing under Config -> Keyboard\Mouse. Only the trackpoint is there.

I have since performed a BIOS update to the latest version but it still isn't showing up.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction to get this thing enabled again. Thanks.

PS. The student says he hasn't touched or done anything to make it not work.

Try installing the Ultranav drivers first. If it is still not recognized you will have to replace the palmrest and hopefully they did not spill liquid on it otherwise system board.

Try re-installing the UltraNav driver and UltraNav utility from the Lenovo website. I don't think a BIOS update would de-activate anything in the BIOS. If it would change anything it would probably set reset the setting back to normal/standard in which the touch pad would be activated. But you'll never know...

Have you tried going through control panel and see if it's disabled?

Also, once you install the UltraNav driver, install the UltraNav Utility after.

Did you try the Fn+F8 trick as well, I believe you can disable/enable the trackpoint and the touchpad there.

I didn't mention it in my first post but I have already tried the UltraNav driver and utility.. i push Fn+F8 and its on "Enable Trackpoint Only" so I select "Enable trackpoint & touchpad". It just closes the program and doesn't do anything. It's still disabled and doesn't work.

When I goto ThinkPad Configuration the touchpad is greyed-out.

I'm thinking its gotta be showing in BIOS before it will ever work in Windows.

If its grayed out and not present in the BIOS under keyboard/mouse, then you have a defective planar/palmrest.
