It seems to go BEEEEEEEEEEEE, pretty annoying. I haven't been able to test if it continues to buzz, but whenever I pull out the power chord, it starts the noise again.

    Anyone else experience this?

I've heard a lot of complaints about sounds like that on many systems. Try putting your power scheme to 'always on' while you are on battery.

From what I've heard, the sounds are (almost always) caused by the processor upclocking and downclocking hundreds of times per second. If you still hear that sound after doing what I suggest, you have a different problem.

I have had this problem, it happens when the display dims. Try dimming the display while plugged in.

is it supposed to start buzzing immediately when i turned down the display? it certainly didnt, but it was buzzing at the same time the display would have been turned down (ie, battery power).

Guess there are a few confounding variables to filter out.

if it is the thing im thinking of, then yes, turning down the display will cause an immediate buzz. you can rule that out.

One of my older Toshiba notebooks made this sound anytime it was operating on battery.

When you unplug the computer, it changes power scheme to save electricity. The beeps is meant to inform you about power scheme changes. I heard that there is a option either in the BIOS or Thinkvantage power manager to turn off the beeps. I cannot confirm this though since I am still waiting for my thinkpad. Try do a search in here and forum.thinkpads.com
