Hey guys. This week I ended up reformatting my computer(Thinkpad T60) not once, but twice due to a system update getting stuck. What happened was that I opened up system update to update my system, I selected all updates, including the Wireless LAN update, and when the Wireless LAN update was in the process of installing, system update gets stuck at the very end of it. I let it sit for 3 hours or so of it doing nothing(CPU at 0% and HD not running at all). I end up canceling the update, but the System update application is frozen, so I end up forcing the application to quit or I restart my computer.
Once my computer rebooted, I hit Fn + F5 to connect to my wireless network, as I normally do, but nothing happened. I retry a few more times, then I go to Start -> Programs -> thinkvantage -> Access Connections and an error message pops up stating that it cannot find the path in the dll or something to that effect.
I cannot afford to send my laptop in to Lenovo nowadays because school just started, so I saved my folders to an external HD and reformatted my computer to the original factory settings(no I did not make a backup).
This has happened to me 2 times so far within a mere 3 days, and quite frankly I am freakin pissed off.
I was just wondering if any of you have experienced this problem, and what did you do to rectify it? Right now as I type I am updating my computer again with every update besides that Wireless LAN update. I am wondering if only I am experiencing these problems or if anyone else is. Comments and help appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Ditch System Update. Do your computer (and yourself) a favor and install things manually.
-
How? Go to windows and ATI site to see whats new? I would not be sure of what to install...
-
What are the problems you are having? Wireless issues?
I will help you through the process. -
I already reformatted for the second time, and am currently updating again, but am omitting the updates that caused problems, namely the Wireless updates. I was wondering if anyone else had such problems, and if so, what did they do about them. Thanks anyways Ark.
I will be sure to let you know if I get into any trouble again.
-
It can also be that the updates are causing driver conflicts
-
OK, so I just finished using system update to update my system, but I omitted the problematic updates... or so I thought. I just restarted my comp after the updates and got a pop up message saying:
"The procedure entry point ?AcSvcGetWLConnectionStatus@@YAHPAGAAVCAcWlStatus@@@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library AcSvcStub.dll."
The last two times I got this message, I was unable to open access connections, and so I could not connect to the internet and ended up reformatting the computer. This time, I still cannot open up Access Connections, but for some odd reason, I can access the internet, I am just not able to edit my wirless internet options. Please help!!! Thanks in advance. -
I would not use system update. You need to manually install to get it to work correctly. First, what OS and WIFI card are you using?
-
I am using Windows XP Pro, and my WIFI card is: Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG. It is not the hardware I am having trouble with, it is the software, the access connections software. I am not sure, but I do not think that it is a driver issue, it is just my access connections acting up. I am currently downloading access connections from Lenovo's site.

Download these app files:
1. 7mcn38ww.exe 15,663,352 ThinkVantage Access Connections
2. 7kwc50ww.exe 37,831,024 Intel Pro Wireless Driver (802.11 abgn, abg, bg)
3. 7kvu22ww.exe 4,742,104 Hotkey driver
4. 7kku06ww.exe 1,362,432 Power Management driver
Uninstall power management, hotkey driver, intel wireless drivers, and access connections and reboot; though you dont need to remove AC I would recommend you do this time. Next install intel pro wireless drivers then access connections, reboot and then install power management drivers and hotkey drivers; reboot if needed during the install of those apps
Keep in mind that when you first run these apps thye will only extract. You need to run the setup file where it was extracted to afterward. -
Thanks a lot for the help optomos. I already downloaded the ThinkVantge Access Connections and it now works
. The only app that is not up to date is the Intel Pro Wireless Driver that I am scared of downloading after having to reformat 2 times... Why do you think I should remove the AC adapter? Can you please be more clear? Thanks!

AC=Access Connections. If it aint broke, don't fix it
-
Yeah, my goal was to fix access connections, and that is working. Thanks a lot to everyone who helped, especially you optomos. That really helped!
