I am looking forward to buy my first ThinkPad.They have some really cheap T60-s with Core 2 and Ati 1300 or 1400 Videocard here in the @shops in England. I will mostly use it for business work-so I don't mind a bit older hardware.I keep reading that the T60's are better build and more durable than the T61's.IS THIS TRUE?
i also wonder(because i see exactly the same configurations at the different @shops-can it be that these have been some models with issues that have been returned back from costumers and then some kind refurbished and than sent back to the market. They all come with 3y limited warranties and the vendors claim that they have no issues,but-who knows.I mean-these are some 1 (and more) year old models-why have they not been sold for that time and how come they are now on the market for half the price they were sold justa few months ago?
Any suggestions?

I got you 2 compilations of reviews for these 2 models.
The purpose is for you to get a broad idea of these models from the perspectives of independent reviewers. More reviews also "smooth out" possible bias by individual reviewer.
For T60 :

Thanks for the reply,Benjamin!
I have red many magazine and Internet-site reviews of both the T60 and t61 and they praise them both there. But this reviews cannot tell if the laptop show any problems in the next months and years.I just get the feeling that from the personal consumer reports people think that ever since Lenovo produces the ThinkPads-every new model is less durable than the previous one.And I get the feeling that there are more issues and problems about the T61.Maybe it is just the way I get the things,I may be wrong...Probably people that have owned both of them can say.The thing is that now one can buy a new and never used T60 for half the price of the new T61 (and in Europe new Thinkpad models are much more expensive than they are in the States, belive me..) -
Given the price difference between US & UK, you may like to consider importing from US. You'll still need to take into consideration the VAT that your country will levy. Two international exporters for ThinkPad include :
PC Connection

pcRUSH

Ultimately, the final decision rests with you. I wish you all the best.

Thank you.I will check out the exporting possibilities.
But-do you think that buying a T60 that has been produced 1,5 year ago and now is sold as a ''new item'' -with a standard warranty for half the price it was then is a risky bet? I mean-don't they try to resell some models that have shown some problems when they first have been released? -
Your skepticism is very healthy. When something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is too good to be true.
You understand consumer behaviour in UK better than myself. There are a few questions that can help :
a) Does the typical UK consumer buy the latest model only ? If YES, then there is genuine business reason to reduce price of the older T60 to clear old stock.
b) How reputable is the seller for you to want to believe that the T60 in question is indeed new ? i.e. Is it a seller well known for honest dealings ?
c) Are other sellers within that same vacinity also doing the same in price-cuts ? If NO, then something is obviously wrong.
Hope the above helps.

Well, there are many sellers that sell this T60 models, all kind of sellers.
What I find out and makes me suspicious, regularly checking out the offers at the different sellers,is that at certain times there are certain old ThinkPads(wit exactly the same specifications) appear in the market, sold by many sellers. They appear at the same time in limited quantities and have the same specifications.
They are probably imported altogether in the UK.I find the same models with the US sellers i USA,maybe they are turned into market from Lenovo themself...
This is what makes me think that this may be some kind of series that have shown defects.I really don't know how the system of the stock clearnesses work and this is the only explanation that I can think of.Or maybe this are models that have never been opened...This may be normal,I don't know -
It could be a good bargain they are offering. In my case, I only buy from supplier(s) I trust.
