I've owned my T60 Widescreen for about a week and in my quest to quiet the fan I came across a program called TP FanControl which does a great job of quieting the fan down and only running it as fast as it needs to run. However, when the fan is running at a lower speed I am almost always getting a high pitch squealing sound coming from the fan. It's so annoying that I just would rather have the fan run faster and louder because at least then I don't hear the high pitch noise. Anyone else notice this or know a possible way to fix it? Maybe order a new fan?

I noticed one high pitched sound from my T60 WS. I thought it was coming either from hard disk barrings or from a fan other than the main CPU fan. I've had plenty of squeaky fans in the past. I personally have never been able to fix them. Lenovo might repair it for you, but that is the only way that I can think of getting it fixed. Even you try to get that to happen my suggestion would be to have the rep just make it explicit on the repair order. "Fan works, but is of poor quality, and cause loud noise. Replace fan assembly." Otherwise my experience with RMAs has been they don't replace functional parts.

Good luck, my little noise was never loud and has gone away.
