I ordered a T60 WS from buy.com and will be receiving it soon. It comes with 1GB of DDR2 RAM (I believe 1DIMM). I'd like to upgrade to 2GB. Is there any specific type of RAM I need to buy? I'm not sure what all the terms such as SODIMM..etc mean and what my laptop will need. Also, is it difficult to install an extra 1GB in this machine? How would I go about installing it? Thanks in advance :)

SODIMM - Small Outline Dual In-line Memory Module

You will want to get DDR2 677 SODIMM - Kingston / OCZ ValueRAM will be fine, others such as Crucial / Corsair are decent brands as well.

Thanks for the answers! Do I have anything to worry about as far as installing it goes or is it fairly simple?

It is located under the touchpad. There are four screws on the bottom to remove, then pop off the palm rest. This is all covered in the service manual, located on Lenovo's site.

    Would this work?
    Crucial - Memory - 1 GB - SO DIMM 200-pin - DDR II - 667 MHz / PC2-5300 - CL5 - 1.8 V - unbuffered - non-ECC

Adding an extra seperatly purchased gb of ram doesn't void the garranty of the laptop does it ?

Yes, that should be fine. Crucial is good, but it's a little more expensive than most other RAM out there. I think it's worth it, though. Cheap RAM can introduce all sorts of system stability issues that are difficult to track down, so I think better RAM is a worthwhile investment. Mushkin also makes good stuff.

I ordered the extra gig from Lenovo to avoid any compatibility issues (probably overparanoid). Installing the ram is a breeze, here are the instructions:

I think Crucial or Mushkin is better quality RAM than the no-name stuff Lenovo puts in there. ;)

The no-name memory from Lenovo is actually Samsung.
