Could you post some pictures of LG and Samsung screens side by side.
Please
-
Yes .... I will certainly post my comments on Monday when I have a chance to spend some time checking out the T60Ws. We just got the shipment in on Friday afternoon, so after reading the posts in this forum, I quickly jotted down all the serial numbers before I left work. When I got home, i checked them all on the IBM website and go figure, only one LG screen. I dont really care, because I have a 2 month old Z61p with an LG screen and I'm very happy with it. We also purchased 5 Dells, some D820s and D620s and I'm cant wait to compare those also. The Dells wont be delivered till next Friday though so I'll have to post that review later. And yes, it should be no problem to post side by side pictures.

Well, after reading through this thread, it appears my T60 WS that I just ordered is going to be built with the samsung WSXGA+ lcd...
So I'm thinking since I just ordered it today, (saturday) maybe I can call up lenovo on monday, and request it to be built with the LG screen... -
-
Ok, after two days, I finally got through to lenovo, and they told me that they can't request it to be built w/ the LG screen, and that once I get it, if I get the samsung, they're not supposed to take it back and swap it out??? what gives??
-
well Hotboy got his from a retailer and he just said he wasn't happy with the screen I think. Might also depend on who you talk to. I'm not surprised they won't let you. If you can afford it, I would just order like 5 and then wait till they come with the build lists and say woops I only meant to order 1 cancel these 4 with $%# parts? If I had a high limit credit card I might do that...
-
Hahaha drwho , that's a good idea.
2 Cvec , Although, according their return policy you can return your laptop for a full refund if you didn't open the box. Actually , you don't need to open the box in order to know what screen you got. There's a serial number right at the box. -
Well, I'd prefer to be able to open it up and take a look and see if the samsung screen is tolerable or not for me since I do need a new laptop now, and if the screen is better than my current one, I'd be happy...
But whatever, I'll just have to hope it comes with the LG...
Since I bought it on sale w/ a no longer valid coupon, would I be able to order another one at the same price I paid for this one if I do decide to return it in the event of it coming w/ the samsung lcd? -
No you won't be able to get old sales. PS a few lemons make everyone think a part is intolerable... It might not even be bad. Abaxter didn't think so in his review (samsung panel)... so yeah. I'd just look at it.
-
Yea, I don't think it will be as bad as everyone says. I mean, the lcd on mine is perfect to me, there's only been a few times where I wish it was brighter, but I've had other people comment on it being a crappier one, so I might be happy with the samsung... We'll just see what I get and go from there... I'm sure I'll open it up even if it is the samsung because I need a new laptop two weeks ago, lol.
-
Samsung panel is not that bad, I have used it for a couple of weeks and it's not catastrohpically bad. Of course LG is better but not much.
Since I am very hypercritical when it comes to screen, I chose to return and swap it. -
I need some help - I bought a T60p with 15.4 WSXGA+ that im planning on cancelling since I hate widescreens, but Lenovo is phasing standard out and there isn't 15" standard option for T60p. either way my R40 right now was 1400 X 1050 resolution, which is perfect for me. I keep reading there is a new WXSGA, it seems like with the T60p, is that true, is it a different resolution.
I am tempted to cancel my order due it being a widescreen and realizing how much i dislike the fact there is a huge space when being on websites.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks. -
Your new T60p WSXGA+ will come with a Vista OS. It lets you set the resolution to the level you want quite easily. I like the WS. If you knew you didn't like it, why did you order it?
-
Hey guys! I have noticed, that when I was on Samsung screen, the battery life was 20-30 minutes longer.
-
Like I said, as long as the Samsung isn't worse than my current lcd, which I imagine would be very unlikely considering this was a budget notebook from 4+ years ago, I'll be happy. -
Hey Guys, its been a crazy week unpacking and setting up the new laptops but I did manage to get a few pics of the screens ... Although, you cannot really tell much of a difference from the pics, but in person, there is a HUGE difference ! The LG has much richer colors, it has a sharper cleaner image. The colors on the Samsung screen are very wahsed out and there is a grey haze on the screen, almost like you are looking at the screen through a fine filter of some sort. After playing with both for a while, I would never accept the Samsung screen if there was a chance of getting an LG. Below are two screens shots the top one is the LG.
-
yeah I can't tell with these, the one of the bottom mostly just looks like it is on a higher brightness...
-
I can't see any difference. the pics are too close
-
While this may be irrelevant, the bright white of both screens is different - the Samsung's "white" has a mushroom cloud kind of shape, whereas the LG's brightness seems more uniform The funny thing is that from the shots you took the samsung actually looks better for the photo shown! lol
-
I'm strongly considering sending my T60 w/ Samsung screen back for a return in the unopened box, and then just reordering the same config with the hopes of getting an LG. I've searched around to see if anyone has tried this and found very little.... has anyone had any success/luck with this so far?
-
I have swaped mine. But I purchased mine from a reseller(buy.com), so I don't know how it goes with lenovo.
-
Argh, I'm so torn! The box for my T60WS 15.4 is still unopened.... do I go through the return hassle to try and get an LG, or just suck it up with the "grossly inferior" Samsung???? I wouldn't say I'm super sensitive about screens, my old computer was a Sony Vaio GR370 from 2002 (!). So I imagine anything will be an improvement. That said, I plan on keeping this system at least another 4-5 years.... and considering the screen is something I'll be looking at for MANY hours (obviously), I want it to be the BEST.
So, is it truly worth the return/exchange hassle and wait to go for the LG screen???? Please help me with my dilemma! -
I have my 8744C9U held up at a local UPS hub at the moment and all these talk about inferior screen and KB is giving me a very uneasy feeling, especially I just spent slightly under $2k of my own money.
I have been using TP's since they first came out and I have been really impressed by their built & reliability, especially if you travel a lot, these are built like tanks IMHO.
I just looked up my serial # and it is configured with the Chicony KB & Samsung screen, so both components are considered inferior by most account. However, I believe the "quality" judgement is rather personal & subjective in nature, and if you don't have side by side units under a testing environment, most would not notice the difference. -
2 inorv9. I would say that Sony have the best screens out there. I don't think that even LG will be better than Sony.
It's a good idea to go to the nearest store and see the T60's and compare the screens of each other, it's very possible that some of them might be Samsung screens. -
That's a good idea hotboy, might save myself some grief. I'll go try and check it out at a Circuit City or something.
-
I went to my local BestBuy and saw the T60 WSXGA+ display model, which has LG screen and it looks great!
I also ordered T60 WSXGA+ and got Samsung screen and Chicony keyboard. It'll arrive tomorrow and will go back to Lenovo the very next day. Once you've seen LG screen, you wouldn't want anything less than that. -
I can't tell what my screen/keyboard will be. I have about 2 days to cancel if it is a samsung screen. please help. i tried to look up the part number.

thanks. -
You need to wait until it ships. It is only then that they will send you the serial #, which you can look up the FRU# and follow instructions in our FAQ as to which screen you got.
-
Has anyone gotten the WXGA screen, as opposed to the WSXGA+, with their 15.4" t60? I just noticed that it was an option and was wondering if anyone knows who makes it and if the screen is any good.
-
Thinkpad is not known for the most beautiful screen among other notebook brands. Exception for Flexview of course. You might want to look to another brand for better screen.
-
I dont think this thread is about if the screen is beautiful or not.
-
I've been waiting for mine to ship and reading about the screen issues in the forums. I could not stand it anymore i searched out a circuit city with a thinkpad T60 on display. The results were mixed.
Good
- Great feel / solid / i like the look of the thinkpad/
Bad
- screen is not bright at all. I adjusted to the brightest setting which equaled the Lowest setting on the HP next to it.
This is the ultimate version of what i want in a laptop minus the screen. This screen on display was not the WSXGA+ that i ordered, it was the low res version which is wxga. Are all T60 screens this dim? It was atleast half as bright as all other laptops there. -

MY SAMSUNG VS LG STORY
(sorry this is long)
I bought my T60 laptop from the buy.com deal. Unfortunately I was unlucky and got the Samsung screen. It was definitely too dim for me (a lot dimmer than any of my lcd monitors and my macbook pro) and had backlight leakage issues. I was unable to exchange back to buy.com (after 14 days). I then tried Lenovo tech support. After sending in my laptop and explaining my problem and dissapointment, it was sent back as being normal and under spec. They didn't compare it with an LG-Philips panel to see the difference.
Once I got it back I made numerous calls and long explanations, and they upgraded me to Customer Satisfaction which they call Lenovo Swat. So I shipped it to this new department, and they agreed to compare my Samsung screen(FRU# 42T0329) directly with the LG Philips (FRU# 13N7020) to get an accurate description of my problem. I even gave them links to discussions on here and thinkpad forums of this problem.
After testing, this is what they sent me:
"We've had product engineering compare your Samsung 42T0329 to LG-Philips 13N7020. Measurements of the brightness were taken head-on (i.e. normal usage) vs 45-degrees to the left or right (i.e. looking at someone else's PC from the side). Your Samsung is brightest head-on, but the LG-Philips is brightest when viewed at an angle. This was confirmed on other test samples as well --the Samsung is brightest head-on. I have an LG-Philips one on-hand and can replace it for customer satisfaction --but I wanted to give you the facts first. There are minor variances in any manufacturing process so you may get lucky and get a brighter one, but based on all our tests that is unlikely. Please let me know if you want me to go ahead and replace it, or send it back as-is. If you choose the replacement and don't like it, you can send it back to me to put the Samsung back in. Thanks for your patience. "
I agreed to have my LCD replaced w the LG-Philips one and I finally got it shipped back today. Its been in Tech Supports hands more than mine since I bought this laptop in February. I think I honestly used it about 1-2 weeks.
I not really sure if i see a difference in brightness heads on (still seems kinda dim). I think I see an improvement in viewing angles (I remember it was really hard to see the screen if I wasn't directly in front of it). I also think i see less backlight leakage on the bottom.
Is there a way I can confirm that the screen I have now is the LG-Philips screen? I did a part lookup but I think thats based off my serial number, and not actually scanning the parts that are in my T60. So I think my serial number will just show what my parts are during construction. Has anyone changed a part with a new part w/ a different FRU#, and does it show this change in the part lookup?
I think I'm just going to leave it the way it is. I really just want to use it now. However I do want to check to see if I actually have a LG-Philips panel now for piece of mind. I do appreciate Lenovo Customer Satisfaction (SWAT) for trying to take care of me and I do trust them, but I'm just surprised/shocked I didn't see a bigger or any difference in brightness.
Any advice or thoughts? Thanks in advance. -
In fact, they are right. Samsung seemed to me a bit brighter but with more light leackage, while LG slightly dimmer but with almost no light leackage.
I first got Samsung and after using for a while I have noticed that the leackage is too much for me and I sent it back to buy.com , fortunately they replaced mine with a new one with LG screen.
Am I happy with LG? Yes I am, but my expectations were a bit higher.
There are a lot of horrible stories about the samsung screens, but I think they were a little exaggarated.
