    so i ordered a 2623-d6u and it came...nice machine

having trouble with the wireless...i have a network setup with the belkin pre-n wireless router...i set it up on the IBM...worked good for two days...now it only picks up the wireless when i am physically in the room with the router

the signal is not weak...it can detect the network all through the house but it only connects when im in the same room as the router...it disconnects when i leave.

i took it to work and it connected flawlessly to other networks. i called belkin and they said all IBM.

    what gives?!

Perhaps a firmware update will help.

Have you tried both the ibm software and the windows software to control the wireless? It seems like access connections is better for some networks while letting windows do it is better for others (perhaps related to the type/amount of security in the network).

edit: to do this, click on the wireless icon in the bottom right of the taskbar --> view wireless networks --> change advanced settings --> wireless networks tab --> check 'use windows...'

Can you take it elsewhere to see if it works?

it does work at the office...thats the weird thing.

in the house, the signal of the network is picked up by the intel card and it is a strong signal but it just can't log on (renew ip) UNLESS i am in the same room as where the pre-n router is placed.

i have played with many settings. this is driving me insane.

    no the other is fine.

i moved the router and the modem to another cable connection in the house(downstairs). again, it only connects when its physically in the room with the modem and router.

anyone have ANY other ideas?

How about plugging directly into the router through the ethernet port.

Perhaps the card is bad. You could run down to bestbuy/circuit city and pick up a router. Then if it still is not working take it back. Hopefully it will tell you whether it is the card or the router. I have seen on occasion where a certain card did not like a card for whatever reason.

i called IBM and complained. they are sending me a new card. if that doesn't work then i guess i will retry with a new pre-n router.
