I am just going to first quote a couple of lines from this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568
I believe this is Lenovo/IBM related since on thier site they advertise a ATI mobility x1400 128mb vram

Now when I look at the 'vram' (Even though its not really all vram) via. display properties it says it has 512 'vram'.

What does this mean? Well when reading the thread it leaves me thinking that I have 256mb vram with 256 system memory. However, when reading other threads people say its 128 dedicated with the rest being system memory.

For reference I looked at my friend's acer laptop (same video card as mine x1400) it was advertised at 256 vram with 256 system memory.

Could someone clear this up with me? It would also be helpful if the OP of the reference thread could clear this up (Chaz).

Is this a mistake on the IBM page? The thread? or did I just get a tasty bonus? :3

    Thanks

EDIT: If its alright then I'll add the external link to the opposing thread (delete if its not ok :p )

I am not 100% sure, but everything I have ever heard/experienced states that the x1400 is 128 dedicated+128 shared. I believe that the 384 "hypermemory" is a mistake, but I will defer to the experts.

That is true. When I called IBM Kuwait inquiring about the T60s that just arrived, I asked what was the difference between the 15" and 14" (Iwanted to see if the 15" had flexview on them or not). The guy said that the only difference was that the 14" had a "512" video card while the 15" had only "128". The funny thing is that they are the only authorized dealers in Kuwait. See what I have to go through here. That's probably why I might be the owner of most started threads at NBR :)

What I meant was then this does not apply to me since I have a 15" Wide screen?

    Some notes to add:
I never heard of a thinkpad having a 512 VRAM video card (actually I don't think there are any laptop video cards with 512VRAM). If this is inclusive with the hyper memory then the 128 for a 15" is inconsistent? Well unless it was a 64mb VRAM with 64mb of system memory. This would also not apply to my case. :p

Well it could also just be me being really tired :p I'll sleep on this and hopefully not wake up in the morning realizing I was being stupid XD

It seems that X1400 can have 256+256. Check this link.
Can you look under System to see how much RAM is Windows reporting? The difference to 1Gig (or to whatever ram you have) should be vram allocated to the video card. Maybe you got lucky and they accidentally put a 256 instead of 128 in your laptop. As far as I know, there are no Lenovos with X1400, 256Mb, at least I couldn't find this spec on their website....maybe I'm wrong....

I think it is possible to have 128 MB dedicated VRAM and Hypermem of 384 MB.

Mine is Z with X1400. Sisoft sandra show exactly 128 MB dedicated VRAM but when i look at DXDiag it is shown 512 MB.

With the newest ATI driver it is possible to utilize RAM to use as a HyperMem more than 128 MB.

Check this thread. This guy is saying his X1400 was also reporting 512Mb, but he got it verfied with Sisoft Sandra which confirmed the 128Mb specs.

I am a little bit confused about what your Windows is reporting. I have an old Toshiba (waiting delivery for a T60 WS :)) with ATI Mobility Radeon 9000IGP card vith 128 vram only. System is showing 896Mb of Ram (which makes sense, 1Gb-128Mb). Your System is showing 1Gb Ram, does this mean no Vram is allocated? Maybe the X1400 has a different way to use system memory, as it is needed, as opposed of being set aside from the beginning.....

I just wanted to follow-up on this thread....
I used Sisoft sandra and my vram was shown to be 128mb.
Just a heads up to anyone else wondering about the same thing! ;)

Alright, this is not the first thread about that here...

There are no X1400s with 256MB of dedicated memory, the maximum is 128. Antything else on top of that is shared memory (up to 512 depending on the drivers and amount of RAM). This card just doesn't need more than 128 MB of dedicated VRAM and the shared memory doesn't help performance. And, please don't post links to ignorantly written sites like www.notebookcheck.net...

The X1400 in the T60/z61m is 128MB of dedicated memory, extended to 512MB through Hypermemory.

Sorry Ronaldo for the garbage link. Unfortunately I couldn't find the conclusive info on the ATI website (perhaps I didn't know where to look properly).
