Hi there,
My T60 has been working fine. This problem started a few hours ago. It would go to standby very quickly and I can't get it out of the blank screen. I have to close the lid, wait for the beep, and open it again to see the screen. I went to the power settings ( XP Professional ) and changed all the Turn off hdd/monitor to Never but it has no effect. Is this a sign of gpu X1400 failing? I have made no hardware or software changes in a long time. It just started happening out of the blue. It would be great if you guys can shed some light on this. I really like this flexview T60!!
Thank you

does the same problem occur in safe mode?
Install TPFancontrol see what temperature your CPU and GPU is getting to. It could be caused by overheating. -
Thanks for the reply. It's dead! At first these suspend black screens were at random intervals. After a while, simply closing the lid and opening it failed to bring back the screen. I reboot and it's black screen. I let someone here open it up. It wasn't really dusty inside. We made sure nothing's loose or anything, applied thermal paste to the heatsink and cpu, put it back together. and now it won't power up. When I plug in the AC, I see the AC light, but when I press the power button, a few lights blink and that's it. Nothing. Dead. Could it be that the GPU died? we probably messed something up by opening it. Now it's unresponsive. Is it worth getting it repaired? I really liked the flexview screen on this. Any chance anyone know any reliable place to get it looked at?
Thank you -
You tried some different memory or hard drive? It doesn't matter if the GPU is dead as it's soldered to the board, which will need to be replaced. If neither of those work, I'd try eBay for a new board. That's probably the cheapest route and if you've opened it up, doing the board isn't all that difficult.

I tried different memory and HDD. Nothing. I'm not sure what's a good price for a new board. There is one on eBay for $150. Does that sound good?
You did the AFFS mod on the X200, didn't you? How does the screen compare against the IPS from your R60? In terms of picture quality and contrast? I was thinking of getting a X200 and do the same mod. I really liked the T60 flexview screen!
Thank you -
Could it be that you just didn't put the LCD connector/s back properly? It's a common issue in laptops. I'd open the system again and re-seat everything, even the CPU, clean and re-apply thermal paste again (use minimalistic approach, the grain method). Try again.

as aikimox suggested, you should take off the heatsink/fan and reapply the thermal paste to see if that helps. X1400 GPU is extremely reliable even when it does run a little hot.
T60 can't come out of standby blank screen!!
