Recently, I have bought a lenovo T60 laptop with a 14'' SXGA dispaly. I am absolutely disappointed with the display. I know that most laptop lcds have some light leakage, but leakage on the bottom of this display is enormous. I am unable to find an optimal viewing angle. The upper half of the display is always much darker. It irritates me a lot. Another big surprise was when i found out that the plastic on the right side of the lcd is loosened. When viewing from side you can see white light from the lamp (pictures). My friend has R51 with a 15'' XGA display and it has almost no leakage and better viewing angles. I think lenovo is downgrading the thikpad build quality. The R51 feels more solid and has better (not mushy) keyboard than my T60. Does anyone have similar problems with thinkpad display? Is there a solution for this problem other than display replacement?

I've got a similar problem with my Z61t (14" display). The top is loose, and you see those white "bars" on the top, if the screen is tilted back too far. I've decided it's no a huge problem, but it certainly does bug me a bit.

On my T60 with the 15" flexview, if you look at a steep enough angle from each side, you can see between the LCD and bezel showing you the outside part of the backlight reflector. I am not really sure if it is an issue of the cover being loose, but more of a design problem with the LCD element itself. The LCD sits slightly recessed from the outer metal frame around it, and since the plastic frame rests on the metal edge of the display, it sits ever so slightly above the main viewing area.
I guess you win some, ya lose some ;-P
