I have a 2.5yr old T60. Its been working good for me but ive been having this problem recently. It happened after I upgraded my memory by adding a 1gb stick i bought off ebay. For some reason the screen freezes and has vertical lines going through when i play something high graphics or when its running a memory test. Its a 4 sets of 3x lines about 1cm thick. (ill post some pictures later) Do you think my memory stick is defected? I got a motherboard/graphics card replaced under warranty for this reason but its still happening.

Might be. If the RAM module you bought is a known type that's compatible with your T60 system, then I think it is the case of a defective module.
To confirm this, test the RAM module with a friend with a laptop in which the RAM is compatible with. -
I wouldn't think a defective stick of memory would cause this, unless you are running integrated graphics, where the GPU is using a portion of the system memory.
Memory produces heat, so I guess it's possible that the additional stick was enough to push the aggregate heat of the system to a point where the GPU over-heated enough to produce something like that, but I doubt it.
If you were having the problem before adding the memory, I'd say the problem just never got fixed. If it started up again *after* adding the memory, I'd be inclined to chalk it up to coincidence and guess that it's a case of a recurrence the previous problem. Does it continue to happen if you take that new stick of memory out? What about if you swap the sticks in the slots? -
I wouldn't worry about whether you seen the problem or not. You want the problem fixed.
Remove all the hardware that you added and tell us what you find.
