Since I got my T60 about 2 weeks ago, a problem occured 3 times: after being idle for about an hour or so (not in stand-by, only with the screensaver on), the network adapter would disappear from the device manager and the system performance would drop dramatically (to the point that the mouse gets stuck briefly). The problem is solved by restarting the computer.
I know that on battery power the network adapter is disabled to save power when a cable is not connected, but this problem occurs when on AC power and with the network cable plugged in.
I'm sure this must be a BIOS or Lenovo software bug. Has anybody else seen this?

Uninstall all nic drivers and modem drivers restart the computer and reinstall the driver manually. If windows detects it ignore it get the latest drivers from lenovo and reinstall. If it continues to happen then well you need to send it back I hope you have warranty.

I recently installed the latest network driver from lenovo.
Isn't there a page were I can report bugs to lenovo? This is clearly a software bug and I don't have the time to wait for another laptop and get all the stuff on it again. I mean that's why I got a thinkpad in the first place (because I don't want to apply to warranty).

Could try Intel's driver as well if you have the intel card.

Just to let you know, the Intel ethernet adapter has a power feature called Deep Power Down or something I believe. It's in the device settings. I have not had any performance differences or slowdowns when it does this, but it is something you may want to try disabling.

The problem appeard again, this time while working on my laptop. So it isn't related to the system being idle. Actually I think it is related to the Intel gigabit network adapter or/and my cable modem. Besides restarting the computer, I found that if I disable and then reenable the LAN connection the network is working fine again. I took a screenshot of the CPU usage history when the problem is present. Could it be because my cable modem is bad? because sometimes it stops working and I have to unplug and plug it back again to make it work. Also, could the (assumed bad) modem damage my network card?
