Is the current T60 price a good predictor of the T61 price? Are they discounting the T60 to clear inventory for the T61, which will cost more (or at least not be on sale)?

I'm getting a new laptop for law school, and the T60 seems to be exactly what I'm looking for (portable, rugged, fast, within budget), but I'm not sure if I should wait to buy.

I think you stated all the reasons why you should get a T60. ;)

If I were you, I'd wait until they get very cheap and then buy a T60. It's plenty fast, and well... you said yourself that it was "exactly what you're looking for."

Are they going to lower the price on the T60 even more?

They might... I'm pretty sure you could get them to lower it if you convinced them on the phone. ;)

I wouldn't exactly say that. Some reps will not budge on issues of price. Others will. It depends who you talk to. They also might not have the ability to lower it further w/o a manager, in which case, they're not gonna get their manager for you.
Don't get me wrong, some of the people are absolutely great. But some shouldn't even be allowed to answer the phone...

I mostly do Office and Internet type stuff. For that I much prefer SXGA+ to WXGA+ which won't in the short term be an option for the T61.

Good point, Zaz. The standard sized T61 won't be available for a few months, while the widescreen T61 is immediately available.

I'm in the same boat as blacksuit. I'm starting law school in fall and am trying to decide if a wxga+ screen is better suited for my needs than a sxga+. I would be much happier with the widescreen, but I'm pretty sure their will be a significant price increase for the t61.

When choosing between SXGA+ and WSXGA+ it depends on how much screen space you want/need. I have owned a 15.4 T60 with WSXGA+ and enjoyed the screen. Some say the text is too small etc, but I found it just fine. Just remember that the SXGA+ is on the 14.1 model and will be smaller/lighter and easier to carry around so you have to factor that in too.

And dont forget that Vista have a better icons and fonts scaling than XP. So higher resolution does not always smaller text and icons.

Unlike XP, you can always resize the DPI setting without breaking the structure of the windows. Higher resolution also means that less grainy of each object in desktop, it will make everything look sharper and gives more detail to Aero.
