    Hey everyone,

I have been looking for a laptop for the past few months that I can take to college with me this fall. I came across a great deal on the T60. I know an IBM employee and am able to get the following configuration for only $1199.99

    ThinkPad T60 (TopSeller Program)
    2623D6U

    Intel Centrino Mobile Technology
    Microsoft Windows XP Professional
    512 MB
    80 GB
    IntelĀ® Core Duo processor T2400 1.83GHz
    14.1"
    1400x1050
    64MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1300
    4.69-5.12
    UltraNav
    Ultrabay Slim
    DVD Recordable
    None
Three years parts and labor (system battery: one year)
    Integrated Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
    56K V.92 designed modem
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG, Bluetooth
    Fingerprint Reader Client Security Solution

Before I came across this deal, I was pretty much set on getting a widescreen laptop. But now since this deal, I think I am willing to overlook the widescreen. So my question is should I get this now or wait until the Z61t comes out? Thanks for all the help.

Well, I say it really depends on how much you want widescreen... and what type of work you do. For me, movies don't matter so much, but if you were to do a lot w/ spreadsheets, or need multiple windows open simultaneously (like I do) then I would suggest a widescreen.
But for me, ultimately, it depends on if I can get an X1400 in a 14'' Z61 for a decent price. Otherwise, I think I may step on over to the T60...

It is important to consider how badly you need a widescreen display. However, if it were up to me I would get the T60. You've got a pretty sweet deal for that configuration and that price.

z61t has s-video, firewire and sd card reader which t60 doesn't have.
    t60 has a dedicated gpu which z61t doesn't have.

Um, your info is a little mis-guided...

I'm pretty sure the T60 has firewire, and the z61 is available w/ a dedicated gpu up to at least an X1400...

Get the 2623D6U T60 just because the T series is the flagship model of thinkpad.

lol just kidding, I got my 2623D6U 3 days ago and I'm loving it! This is the best notebook I have so far.

Wow, that's a great price. The best price I've seen on that model is about $1450. Sounds like a steal to me.

guess the question is - can you get them to get you a deal on a Z61t?

the T60 does not have firewire. and while to my knowledge final specs have not been released for the Z61s, the Z60t is integrated graphics only, while the Z60m offers discrete.

When released, I should be able to get the discount on the Z61t because it is an IBM employee discount. Otherwise, I would just get the T60 because I would not want to risk losing out on this deal, but because it is with the employee discount, this deal should stay the same, if not become cheaper over time. I also considered an x60 for about $1400 but it had an external optical drive included, but I decided I could tolerate the extra weight for the bigger screen and optical drive of the T60.

    T60 doesn't have firewire and S-Video.

If Z61t keeps the WXGA resolution of the Z60t (1280x768), then the T60's SXGA+ (1400x1050) is going to be better in every way for screen real estate.
