Is T60 available in 14.1" standard screen? Lenovo site only shows 15" available, but I read people bought 14.1" standard.

    Recently?
    I don't think so.
I think you're confusing it with the T61 which does come in 4:3.

This is the only link I know of that allows you to purchase either a T60, T60p, T61, or T61p in 14.1" 4:3 standard screen size: direct Lenovo URL

No idea why they removed the 14.1" 4:3 from the main website, probably too much demand and not enough supply. Still, you think they would find away to provide their customers with what they prefer instead of what has the lowest cost.

I'm also disappointed to see that Lenovo is phasing out the travel bezel, but it makes more business sense to them to phase this low cost item out and sell more DVD burners instead.

P.S.: Although there are no discounts when using the provided URL and you will be paying absolute top dollar for your configuration, Lenovo will likely cancel your order since you didn't follow proper protocol when ordering (unless you are an alumni of Ohio State).

Just now I tried again. No I didn't confuse T61 with T60. I do mean T60. I just read someone's post (forgot where) who purchased a T60 with 14.1" standard screen. I can't get T61 with that feature.

What about using SPP w/o being a shareholder?

There a section in the Education program for "Students & Alumni" which is pretty vague to say the least. If you are an alumni of something......

The 4:3 T61 is also available through the link above.

johnny_1987, my order already went through inadvertently with SPP (I initially meant to create a quote but clicked on the wrong button).

They are at hefty prices there and besides it's for OSU alumni.

What I'd like to know is about T60, not T61. I'm looking for T60 with 14.1" standard screen, but see here

    http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...-category-id=19C791A03AF24034A0011B825513BCED

T60 is only available in 15", no 14" regardless wide or standard.

I would like to know that too!
You're saying that somebody somewhere was able to purchase it.
So far I haven't heard of any other Lenovo sourced site other than the Alumni one.

"I ended up buying a new T60 14 inch with standard screen and nice specs, etc."

Although it's not clear when he bought it.

I bought it at the very end of May and it got to me by June 6th I believe. But it was up there until mid June or so if I remember. Sorry, maybe not so new in comparison to people trying to purchase them now since it's off the website, didn't mean to give that impression.

Having visited this forum, on and off, since late May, I was hoping, by now, Lenovo would've made available a T61 14.1" 4:3 at comparable pricing to the widescreen, for no way can I justify paying the hefty premium the 4:3 currently commands on the OSU alumni site.

Getting kinda tired of this long drawn-out wait too.

Really wish now I'd bought the T60 4:3 back in May when it was available on the main site.

How much did it cost back then?
I have called Lenovo a couple days ago and both reps told me they are not going to offer T61 14" 4:3. (I, too, had been waiting for it)

Yeah the main site was offering the 4:3 14.1 t 60's as a display option under 4:3 15's not even two weeks ago, even though that option changed the entire model!

vaw, as for the cost of the T60 4:3's back in May, I really don't remember the exact price, maybe around $1400 or so, definitely reasonable IMO. It was around the time of the mem day sale anyway. I've never called lenovo on the phone, so thanks for the info.

I'm about to give up though on ever getting a T61 4:3. Might wait another two, three weeks till mid-August. If no-show by then, I'll buy the widescreen, provided deals, coupons, etc are still around.

Leon2245, Yeah, I think I read that post last week whereby it was revealed the T60 14.1" 4:3's were available on the main site under the 15.4" 4:3 configs. How scuzzy is that! But when I went to check for myself, they were no longer there.

If you don't mind not buying from Lenovo, T60 4:3's are still available through resellers and you can also find new ones on ebay with 3 yr Lenovo warranty sometimes at very good prices. There was also a thread over at Thinkpads.com about a guy who was getting some new sealed box T60's.

I just picked up a new 2623-d6u (core duo not core 2) w/ sxga+ and multi burner for $850. Yeah, that is almost the price of a new t61 w/ discounts but I do get my std. screen.

There are also still a lot of 4:3 T60's in educational channels (i.e. university bookstores). You typically have to have some sort of affiliation with the university to buy from the bookstore since they give an educational discout. But if you or someone you know is a student, faculty, staff, or maybe alumnist, you could probably buy from them. I know that there are 13 4:3 14" T60p's sitting in my university's bookstore right now (they have the boxes stacked up behind the counter, so tempting ...).

I think mine came to $1347.04 (Possibly $1247 now that I think of it, they refunded me some extra money when it got cheaper) with an EPP discount back in May. T60 14 inch standard screen, 2 gig with 4mb cache, 2 gig memory, 7200 100 gig hard drive and ATI 64MB graphics with Windows XP.

Samsung screen with chicony keyboard, both very good though. I'm glad I took the chance, I was actually waiting for a T61 14 incher with they assured me was coming out June 5th but I didn't want to take the chance.

Thanks Gianni7 for the resellers info. I'd never considered that option. Will prob have a quick squint on ebay to see what's available, but since this will be my 1st laptop purchase, I'd feel more comfortable going through the manufacturer or the college to which I'm affiliated.

foodle, I'm affiliated with a college, and they do have T60's, any amount of them, but they're all the 15.4" model, which I don't want. I think they sell for $1349, preconfigured specs. I've asked could they get me a 14.1" standard screen. They said yeah, sure, no problem, but only if it's available on the lenovo main site, which of course, it's not. Their education discount doesn't really seem to be that great, judging by some of the prices I've seen quoted on this site with coupons and so forth. Funny how your school has those 14's though and mine doesn't. But that's okay. I'm not bitter. Really I'm not!

Stagorek. I hope you're enjoying your new computer. Yes, I was in your position, about to buy a T60 around memorial day, but thinking hmmmmm, maybe I'll wait for the T61 standard screens instead. And so, I waited. And waited. Well, nuff said!

That was another thing that was flipping me out for a while - all that chat about the various screens and keyboards. Another poster, Jae?? talked about his recent purchase which came with the Samsung on some ohter post. He seems quite satisfied too. No sense in letting the opinions of others affect how you see your laptop. I better stop. I'm sounding preachy.

the reason behind the discontinuation of the standard 14.1 screens is because the lcd manufacturers decided to stop making them and forcing the wide screen standard to the notebook companies. it was something about them saving money by not having to waste screens by having to cut in two different formats or something like that. so yea...dont blame lenovo for not having the standard screens.

    Hey guys
I'm interested in buying my first laptop, and since I can get a 25% discount from IBM, it's pretty much between the R61i and a T60. I am also looking for a 14.1" T60 (I'm from Canada BTW), but it's not on the Lenovo/ IBM site. The 15.4" T60 is about $1,650, and that's a little expensive for me right now.
However, the T5250 - 1500MHz processor in the R61i is not at all appealing to me. A 14.1" T60 would be nice...
