I currently have an HP DV9000t, sometimes when I close programs, the desktop icons revert back to generic icons and then after a few seconds, they get back their custom images, and the screen blinks for less than a second during that process.

Weird. It's probably a software issue, most likely a Windows OS issue. But I am too lazy to track it down.

I have had this problem before, and I found out it was due to the video card. My Lenovo T60 has the X1400, and i found that in the ATi settings - just fiddling around with the settings fixed it. i believe it was due to the Catalyst A.I. Again I cannot say this is the resolution to your problem, but it is something that you may want to consider.

As for furrycute, you do not have the ATi card, as you probably are using the integrated graphics from Intel or nVidia 7600 graphics.

No, mine doesn't have the ATI card, it has the 256mb nVidia 7600 card.

This has been a problem on a couple of different HP computers I've had in the past.

Then i do not know. Maybe you should be looking in the forum under your manufacturer name, as I believe that lenovo does not make any 7600 nVidia powered laptops.

Check your Power Manager settings you're using and turn off Lower Refresh rate after X amount of time.

    1. go to catalyst control center advanced mode
    2. Under display options make sure the 3D refresh override is disabled.
thats how I solved it on my laptop let me know if doesn't work for you.

I think I have the same problem, T60 with vista business. Everytime I close the lid, then reopen (whether its closed for 2 seconds or an hour) the screen will immediately come up normal, then after a couple seconds (it can vary, sometime as much as 10 seconds) the display will flash all black before going back to normal and the cursor is reset to the center of the screen. Also, right before it happens the vista circular cursor things starts spinning. How can I fix this? (I cant fing the 3d refresh override mentioned above)

go to CCC in advanced mode
Under the graphis settings tab click display options
It is in the display options window you should see the 3D refresh override and Disable it.

I have a toshiba u205. the screen blinks or goes black for less than a second occassionally. say right after I start internet explorer, or open a messenger service and it logs on etc. does not happen every time, and the blink is vry short. Dont know whats wrong, but thought I would share it as it sounds similar.

Accelerator in Use: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family
    Video BIOS: 1358
