    I got T60 model 2007-63G having 2GHz core duo, 2GB ram, 100GB disk, 128 X1400 ati and 14'' 1400x1050 lcd. BIOS 1.07

    I have three problems:
    • The fans kick in all the time, even in idle mode and battery
    • The core temp is shocking (max power - 80+ C  )
    • After boot I hear a strange sound, like burbling on the palm rest (HDD resides beneath  )

So to the first problem, every time I turn on my laptop - the fans kick in and do not stop for a while. This problem is remarkable with the power cord and even on the batteries. When running on batteris the temps are 38C, but the fans kick in all the time - I do have a R50e and the fans kick in only when there is a need to kick in. SO right now I am using the laptop about 50 minutes, on battery, the fans even did not stop for a while and there is a very cool air getting out of the fans.

The second problem is that when I run some high performance appliacation, like some calculation, virtual hardware and so, the temps go to 80+ C, and the fans kick in even more.

The HDD sounds, after booting I can hear burbling from within the palm rest, after the fans kick in, the sound is inherable, but quite obvious when booting up. The HDD temp is 35 - 38 C MAX.

I did try to set the profiles in the Thinkvantagae power management, I think that I have tried all what could be. In BIOS there are the simmilar setting.

    And my questions are
    • Is it OK, that the fans are always on?
    • What about the 80+ temp, it is surviable?
    • The SATA sound is ok, or some bug noticing that the HDD is not allright?

As a final word I have to say that without these problems I would be fully satisfied with this laptop, I have seen 10+ other notebooks in past fourteen days and I would (as a professional) only stick with Lenovo.

So I just updated bios to 1.09 ;) and the results are following:

Torture test with cord on:70+C MAX (fan always)
Torture test with battery:70+ (fan always)
Idle test with cord on:45C (fan always)
Idle test with battery:42C (fan sometimes)

    Temperature values got using:
    • Everest
    • Core temp
    • MobileMeter

Which aplication to use for getting the fan rpm?

70 is high, but I doubt there are any thermal problems if you reached that temperature through a torture test. I have a 1.86ghz T43 that gets around there when I play Counter Strike Source and it quickly goes back to under 50 degrees when I exit the game.
