I bought a Dell 6400 - sending it back now.

I'm now looking back at the T60 and also the Dell Lat D820 - they are same class of business notebooks with similar configs... I can get the Dell in a few days, the T60 will take 3 weeks I think... from what I've read.

I'm open to thoughts - I know you will be biased, but I'm open to both sides especially if you've had both...

    Thanks.

Dell Latitude's are nice business laptops, much sturdier than the Inspirion line and have a very classy professional look about them. I still prefer the Thinkpad because they have the reputation of being a very solid professional notebook.

The bottom line is if you can't wait and need a notebook now buying a Latitude is not a bad thing, you just get a little more quality and durability with the T60/T61.

I think the 820 got the highest pc mark score ever on laptop mags tests.

    The Latitudes do not have:

    1) Hard drive active protection
    2) Internal metal roll cage

I've used a D820 for a few days, was not particularly impressed by its build quality.

I thought the T61's introduced the internal roll cage.

I would opt for the T60 over the D820 any day.

I would too but the D820 is not a bad machine it's just the T60/T61 are outstanding. :)

Exactly. I was just about to say that the D820 does in fact have a "roll-cage"/"metal chassis"/whateveryouwanttocallit.

I too was looking at both the D820 and the T60... I went with the T60 because I wanted both expresscard and PCMCIA slots...
