Which one is more solid and actually is there any difference in the construction. Is it worth to spend more for T61?

The T61 has a magnesium roll cage in the lid.

Thanks John B in this case I'll definitely look for a T61. BTW is the quality of build the same? I know some people complaining of T61 build quality.

The t61 is the better system

T61 doesn't have a magnesium lid, so it has better wireless reception than the T60, T61 models are mostly widescreen, T60's weren't, T61 has newer hardware than the T60, I'm sure there's a lot more, that's just what I remember.

I may be mistaken but doesn't the t61 flush battery only have 4-cells? and the extended one is 7??
its also bigger and heavier i believe but not by much
t61s also have a new cooling assembly that keeps the gpu idle lower
I personally like the magnesium on the lid and base assembly. A feeling that most laptops don't have.
The t61's screen is also off centered, most people don't notice but i just can' stop thinking about it so i just got myself a t60. -
About the off-centered screen, I don't think it's bid deals, once you look at the screen for 15 minutes or more, you won't notice it. But if you're obsessed with perfect symmetry, well..... -

14.1" wides have a 4-cell that sits flush, and a 6-cell and 7-cell that stick out.
T61s (only the widescreen versions) also have a Firewire port and an available Smart Card/media card reader to replace the ExpressCard slot, if you so desire. -

You might get a better screen on a T60. On mine I got a 15.4" WXSVA+ screen from LG that I really like. Apparently it's sort of hit or miss, in terms of what screen manufacturer you get, and the list of suppliers depends on what size and resolution screen you're considering. To me the screen is important, so I'm happy with my T60, but I don't think everyone would be.
The sturdiness and quality of the T60 seems fine to me. But I suspect the latest T61 probably runs circles around some of the T60 models.
The T60 I have has a dedicated graphics card, which isn't as good as the graphics cards you can get on the T61, but better than getting integrated graphics on the T61 I would think (may not matter to you, depending on what you're using it for).
I think the performance has a lot to do with whether or not you do a clean install of Vista (or XP), whether it's a T60 or T61. -

I was able to figure it out from the serial number, that it is an LG screen. It didn't really matter to me who it came from, as long as I liked it.

I need a basic configuration nothing special. I don't play games and don't use any demanding applications except VMWare or similar VM to test different OSs and applications. Dedicated graphic card will be just fine. The most important for me is the quality of the construction. Both T60 and T61 have similar design which I really like, very proffessioinal looking.

The T61 also has the most up-to-date (for the moment) processors and chipset from Intel (Santa Rosa). The CPUs on the T60 included Intel Core 2 Duo T7200/T7400/T7600 while the T61 has the T7250/T7300/T7500/T7700. Their clock speed is slightly higher and, more importantly, they have the 800MHz FSB as opposed to the T60's 667MHz. Performance and battery life were both improved somewhat with the Santa Rosa platform.
