I am finally going to buy my T60, since lenovo is now going to provide a free upgrade to vista when it arrives. My only concern is some of the vibration, noise, and heat issues i have heard about from the 7200 rpm HDD in the 14 inch T60. My main reason for getting the 7200rpm drive is so that programs load faster and my computer starts faster, i don't feel is though i will ever push it to max load. Is there any truth to those issues, i have read reviews on seagate and hitachi drives and they all say quite and not much more heat than 5400rpm. I don't want to get the 7200rpm drive and have problems should i still get is or just get the 5400rpm.

I have 2 1/2 year old T42 with a stock 60GB 7200rpm hd. Never had a problem or issues you've listed. A month ago I upgraded it to Hitachi Travelmate 100GB 7200rpm, and everything still runs quiet, cool, and smooth. Of course, I haven't noticed any "faster" improvements since I went between same rpm. This was done just to increase my storage since I did a fresh XP install on my new HD without IBM partition (useless IMHO).

Overall the 7200RPM will be a bit more snappy. You see the biggest benefit from things that are hard drive intensive. Internet or Office won't be hugely different. You'll feel the heat a bit more in the 14" T60 since it is a bit thinner. There are some tools on Hitachi's site which can help with quieting down the drive. Good Luck.
