What is up with them being so fast. My desktop feels to belittled now![]()
This thing is incredible. So much lighter than my z60m, has to be 2lbs or so less if not more. Screen seems to be just a tad less bright, but colors are much nicer, and HOLY JESUS this thing is screaming fast. So far every benchmark in "Everest Lavalys" is putting it up and over the X2 in close to every test. Speeds going in and out of programs is mind blowing right now. It puts my desktop to shame.

This makes me feel like crud about my Z60M.

Hey now, I loved the metal bulk feel of the z60m as it was incredibly tough. Add on top the widescreen, and I loved it with a passion. The thing that broke my heart was the backlight leakage.

Sorry - I just read the post and realized how it reads. I was so torn as to whether to just get something that would definitely get the job done or get something I'd be able to return and then get a killer dual-core. That's really the only thing I'm missing, and the truth is I don't ever expect to need it. I've been getting by with a desktop with a P3 at 800 MHz and integrated video for five years. It's actually not feeling like crud, so much as a twinge of mild buyer's remorse. I suppose it will always be like that with computer purchases.

why are you saying they are horrible then in the topic.
-
He was kidding. The joke is that they're too fast. Because the machine is so powerful, he has to spend time making his desktop feel better, which is not easy - trust me.

Where did you purchase your T60? What are the specs? I'd like one but can't customize any the way I want. -

I knew from the thread title that you meant the T60's were horrible, horribly good.

This 3945abg blows. Dropping, freezing, timing out.. and I am 10 feet from the access point in the other room. First "mod" outside of the 30 day return is the atheros mPci-e card for this laptop. -
Note to self: steal dietcokefiend's laptop.
-
I'm jealous of the fact that you got yours shipped. Mine is still in backorder through CDW. Bah such is life.
-
How much RAM do you have in the notebook dietcokefiend?
-

Currently 1GB in a single stick. Might throw in a 2nd stick if I can find it at a good price (sub 80)
-
Ok, but how did you find it? I go to Lenovo.com and can't search by product code or anything. I'm in the US. Are you somewhere else?
May I ask how much you paid total? -
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
I bought this inside the US about a month ago. The website got funky the past day, and most of the T60's are not listed anymore. More than likely it was a glitch (happened with z60's a while ago).
I only buy laptops from the place that makes them, since they tend to have the best warranty plans and return policy's if stuff goes wrong.
I paid about ~20xx shipped w/ tax -
Here's the link where you can search by product number:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/home.do?country=us
The product code is 2623-D3U, not 2326.
So, how do you like that Flexview screen, dietcokefiend? How about them angles?
Currently my 1.8GHz T42 is on par with my 3GHz desktop, so none is put to shame. But in graphics (6600GT vs 9600) and HD space (120G+250G vs 80G) the desktop wins by a long shot, as it should.
Which means that I won't be getting another laptop, at least until I get a faster desktop. -

Actually i've had a lot of problems with AC and after uninstalling it, my wireless connection works much better. I think maybe the new drivers for AC had some conflicts with the Intel card. I think im also gonna get the Atheros and see what the fuss is all about.
-
wish my access connections worked. there are apparently at least 2 version of the intel drivers installed, and now access connections does not work properly.

I have a T60 2823 55U and am not all that impressed. I traded this laptop from a T42, and I am hitting an I/O threshold. I have ordered the 100GB 7200 RPM drive to see if it makes a difference. I watch the system monitoring, and i never get the CPU above 50% or memory above 50% (i have 2GB installed). I run SQL 2005, analysis services 2005 and reporting services 2005 and i can't go back and forth to outlook without it freezing. I watch the disk activity when i do this and it is pegged. For anyone who is looking at getting one of these, spend the money on the faster drives. The 4200 rpm is ****.

I wish I can afford the 2GHz T60...
How will this T60 perform?
Intel Core Duo 1.83Ghz
512 DDR2 (will upgrade to 1GB later)
60GB HDD
Intel GMA950 (no gaming)
14.1" XGA -
Once you pay over a certain amount of money, there is really no point in squeezing the budget.
