Hello, i got a problem, i'l start from the beginning.

I was all happy with my laptop IBM Lenovo T60, when i messed up, something happent i don't know what was it, all i know is that when i turned on my computer the file boot.ini was missing or corrupt, so i started the computer pressed the blue button, went to rescue and recovery and tryed to rollback the laptop to factory state, and guess what it gave error.
So i sended it to a store to repair it, when i went there fetch my computer, it was formated and threre wass nothoing about the thinkpad tools, so now i installed some tools like rescue and recovery, cause i wanted my computer in the real factory state, suprised i was when i tryed it and it said that the recovery to factory state because ot was excluded or turned off or something like that from that software.

So i beg of you Help me, how can i put the computer with the same stuff like when i bought it?

Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

    Questions:
1- What store did you take it to for repair?
2 -Are they authorized to repair thinkpads?
3 - When you had this problem did you phone thinkpad technical support?
4 - When you bought your thinkpad did you burn recovery discs?

    1- Informatus
    2- Don't know
    3-No...
4-I don't even know what of what you're talking about...

Does that means there is no way to return my laptop to factory state ?

Edit: i don't have backup's too, when something bad happened to the laptop i would recover using the factory state thing, so i though i wouldn't need it

First off taking your Thinkpad to an authorized repair site is important cause they should know how to get your thinkpad up and running without deleting your thinkvantage tools (rescue&repair, Access Connections, etc) or your hidden partition.

Incase you don't know what a hidden partition is, Lenovo, Dell, HP, every other notebook manufacturer dedicate a portion of your harddrive for storing information that can return your computer software to the exact state it was in when it left the factory. They also give you the option of burning recovery disks (CD-roms) that you can use for the same purpose incase your hidden partition is accidentally deleted.

Now most likely, the repair shop has installed a fresh copy of XP (I assume your using XP) on your harddriver which has overwritten the factory hidden partition. And since you didn't burn recovery disks this means you no longer can use Lenovo's rescue and recovery to return your T60's software to the factory state.

Not all is lost though. I suggest you phone lenovo tech support, tell them what happened, and see if you can get a recovery cd from them. Make sure it for the operating system that you originally started with. They may charge you $50 for this.

In the future if something bad happens to your computer, call tech support before taking to a third party for repair cause you really have no idea what they will do to it.

    Hope this helps.

......Wow, this just keeps getting better and better.

No backups? and by backups I mean backing up data to CD or DVD not using lenovo built in recovery software.

You thought you wouldn't need it????? Did you ever consider what would happen to your data if your laptop was lost or stolen?

Perform a Clean Install of XP Pro Operations System Disk. It's not hard! Get the Disk, load & follow the instructions. All the Pre-loads/ThinkPad wear can be found on Lenovo's site.

Get XP Pro O/S disk first!
