Hi Guys, I'm looking for some help.

I have a T60 with an LCD monitor connected via DVI to the dock.

When I dock the computer, I'd like to have the LCD act as the primary display.

It seems this is impossible to set up though, as when I go into the display properties, the "use this device as the primary monitor." check box is greyed out.

I can get the desktop to extend onto the dock connected monitory, I just can't make it primary.

Is there a way aroudn this, or must I always have the laptop LCD act as the primary screen?

    Thanks,

    Dave

You're much better using the built-in ThinkPad software to control this. Hit Fn + F7 to bring up a configuration tool and you can go to "Manage Schemes" to create just about any setting you like.

    good luck.

When I hit fn-f7 I don't get anywhere to pick "manage schemes".

That seems to switch between one of three schemes:

    1. ext lcd only
    2. ext lcd + built in screen
    3. built in screen only

It brings up a little icon that looks like this:

Now the strange thing is, I have the ext panel connected via DVI. And in the display properties tab I have it set up to use just one monitor.

When just the internal panel is selected I get an image there and nothing on the external.

When both are selected (as in my screen shot) I get an image on the internal and nothing on the external.

When just the external is selected I get nothing on either screen.

If I put it back to the just lcd setting, and then go into the display properties and choose the "expand my desktop on to this screen" option and it'll bring up the external lcd, using it as panel two with the internal as primary. The checkbox to make the external primary is greyed out.

Now, if I disconnect the DVI cable and connect a VGA cable instead, then I can use the fn-f7 switch to turn the external monitor only on. Then I open up display properties and the external is set as #1 primary and I have the option of expanding the desktop onto #2, the LCD and it works. If I then power down the machine and swap the vga cable for the dvi cable, it's back to not working.

    Strange huh?

Dave, try hitting the "ThinkVantage" button (blue button at top) and then go to Manage Your Display (I'm using a T43, the software is slightly different, so can't exactly remember what you'll see)
