I know this is all preference...and some people might not be bothered by either of these...but I am just wondering how to set my T60 so that the fan is as quiet as possible, or runs *only* when needed.

And, is there a way to quiet my Harddrive a bit (60BG 7200rpm)?

    Thanks....

There are some utilities on Hitachi's website if you have the 7k100.

Click the green battery in the taskbar, select Launch Power Manager. Then make a custom power profile where Optimize Fan Control to is set to Balance All Parameters.

According to the little fan level measurement, if I set it to "balance all parameters" the fan will be higher. Is this true?

Thanks for the help by the way

I'll be honest, I have no idea how to figure out what brand or anything other than the FRU# which is 39T2645. I would love to know though...

yea, it confused the heck out of me too, but no, balance all parameters lowers the fan speed (I have noticed this first hand, plus while making a call to tech support with a question I asked about that and they said maximize performance means maximize cooling).

Do check out the Hitachi feature tools, it can give you great control over the hdd characteristics as long as it's not a Seagate.
