    Hi all,

I looked around for this issue and saw a post that relates it to a usb problem. The post also provided a fix which did not work. The fix involved going into the Device Manager and switching off the "allow windows to turn off the device to save power" in the USB Root Hub properties.

    Here's the problem.

Brand new T60P widescreen with vista XP and Intel Wireless 3945 ABG. When the laptop's wireless is on and no USB devices are attached it makes a high pitched, digital sounding clicking noise, similar to when you have a cell phone next to an unshielded speaker. tick tick.. The noise comes out of the headphone jack and is quite annoying. When I plug in a USB device it goes away, almost always, sometimes it hangs around for a bit.

Also noticed the noise goes away after shutting off the wireless via the slider switch. I have the latest drivers/bios updates, etc.

On another note, the laptop's wireless signal quality (from wireless network connection status) is always "Good". I put it next to the wireless router and the signal strength didn't change at all. However the green bars under the Sent/Received are completed filled..

Has anoyone come across this issue? Or is it time to RMA it and hope for the best?

    Thanks!

I would RMA... I had some work done on my laptop, and after it came back, it's been making a high-pitched noise most of the time. I sent it to a repair shop, and they replaced the fan, but the noise is still there (though a smaller smaller portion of the time) unless I have the fan on high (by letting Folding@Home take up all the CPU it wants - but then I can hear the fan dammit!) Before, when the fan was on high was when it made the most noise. Noise is weird. The thing is, it's not an easy thing to repair, because the repair guys either couldn't hear the beeping or they couldn't reproduce it. So, fixing something like noise can be a big pain in the butt. Unless someone responds with a fix that you can quickly try yourself, I say RMA.

Its a common noise in almost all intel based laptops. "laptop chirp" is a good search term to find more info on it, but its not limited to any specific laptop or brand.

I looked up laptop chirp and didn't find much on it except for a few people with the same issue. My T41P with the thinkpad a/b/g card doesn't have this problem, nor does an old L400 with a PCMCIA Wireless NIC. Nor does a Dell D400 with a Broadcom wireless card in it. Turns out my wireless signal drops quite a bit and I can't boot up with a USB device, the computer begins to freeze every few seconds while booting up and in DOS. Something else is up... I'm with Malia on this one, I already requested an RMA.
