I just got a T60P today for $350 on eBay. Unfortunately, the screen has a few blotches that the seller neglected to mention. The backlight is about is dim as my T61, which is to say, usable. The color reproduction is still fantastic, and the resolution (UXGA) is still amazing. I'm definitely enjoying it, and compared to the $500+ I would have paid for a better condition example, I think I got a fairly good deal. The screen defects are not noticeable enough to bother me.

I've had a bunch of system crashes doing large file transfers on Ubuntu 10.04. I wonder if this is due to the DIMM slot issue? It seems to work correctly under Windows XP, so maybe it's just an issue with the new 10.04 release.

It's such a shame that we have to reach back 4+ years to get a laptop with what I consider to be the holy trinity of notebook characteristics: great screen, great keyboard, great pointer.

Compared to my T61, the keyboard on the T60 is MUCH nicer and the screen is leagues ahead.

[Edit] I think I get a bad system. Under Linux, it crashes CONSTANTLY under CPU activity. I swapped the drive directly into my T61, and everything works perfectly. Grr... going to try and get my money back and get a working system... The seller is ibmfactoryoutlet, for those who are interested.

T61 and T60 uses the same keyboard design, they are interchangeable. You probably got a chicony keyboard on the T61 and Alps or NMB keyboard on your T60.

Good call! My T61 keyboard is a lot mushier than the T60 one.

I'm going to have to try and get my money back for this T60p though. There's no way I can use it.

I remember when I friends saw my then-new T61. They asked me, "holy crap, you're still using your laptop from high school?"

NMB is mushier than Chicony or Alps, not the other way around.   NMBs are soft where Chicony/Alps have a click to them.

Isn't NMB keyboards suppose to be the best? Personally the chicony keyboards that i have used on the T60 and T61 have not been the best in terms of keyboard feel.

NMB are arguably the best but that's definitely a matter of opinion.   the X300/X301 were only offered with NMB keyboards and many people like that system for its keyboard.

there are all types of users in the keyboard world though.   some people still go out of their way to use the old IBM buckling-spring keyboards from the early 90s.

in any case, if you compare an NMB back-to-back with an Alps or Chicony, it's quite apparent that the NMB types softer.   whether it's "mushy" is up for debate.   seeing that i own a small army of NMB keyboards, i would personally disagree.
