I am getting ready to purchase a high end T60P 15" FLEXVIEW, but, I have one more avenue to pursue according to another forum member. How does this T510 compare to the T60P?

    PROS ?

    CONS ?

    Thoughts ?

    Thanks,

    BT60

T60P's LCD is by far the better LCD and is not 16:10 but 4:3 at least I believe.

Everything else in the T60P is ancient and thus inferior to the T510.

Do you value a lengendary screen that much?

The T510's FHD screen is supposed to be quite nice, actually (although the viewing angles will not be as nice as the T60p's IPS panel - which is pretty much the only reason to get the T60p). The downside is that that particular monitor option is out of stock at the moment, so you'll have to wait a while.

I suppose that the T60p may have been well-used. Both the CCFL backlight and the high-voltage inverter board have finite lifetime, and no one really knows how long would the screen last.

Best-case scenario: the screen would keep working for years to come, but the display would gradually get dimmer (and turning slightly yellow).

Worst-case scenario: the screen could stop working a week after you made the purchase.

The LG IPS LCDs in the T60 are much more known for dimming/yellowing than the Hydis screen in the T60p under consideration. That's not to say those can't be a problem with the Hydis/ID Tech LCDs.

My R60 which has the Hydis screen, still looks great, though it's only been in use for about a year. I plan to use it as my couch potato notebook for years to come as the amount I could probably get for it isn't enough to entice me to give it up. It's still a very good notebook for typical usage, but if you're a power user and need all you can get, a new machine is probably a better option. That was my point in the other thread.

If your cad software isn't particularly CPU intensive, then perhaps the T60p is worth consideration. The FlexViews are the best notebook LCDs I've ever seen. Another point to consider is the GPUs in the T60p, particularly the V5250, are known to run hot.

Get the T510. I have the 14" T60p (not Flexview) and the hardware are getting old. The screen are getting darker and i just replaced the fan. Just like everyone said it is four year old technology. I cannot even watch a Ful HD 1080 movie on this machine now. I bought the W510 2 months ago and love it every way. I only wish i had the FHD screen. And the T510/W510 's built and finish are way better than my T60p. I believe the T510 are on sale now.

    Cheers

Interesting. My R60, which would be akin to your T60, has no trouble doing this.

I dont know why, it just wont play a Full HD 1080 movie properly but no problem playing a HD 720 movie.

    Edit: i had the V 5250 card.

You're probably using a software that doesn't utilize your hardware acceleration as it should have. QuickTime is renowned for issues like this. In my case VLC player managed to play 720p but started messing up when I played a 1080p video. PowerDVD and WinDVD however play 1080p without a hitch.

To point out one obvious, the t510 has 16:9 which is good for watching movie and the processor and gpu(if you get the discrete one) is couple generation better than the t60p. The screen on it must be very dim compare to a brand new t510.

@utopian3, try updating the driver and see whether that helps with the 1080p playback woes.
