I have a t60p with a T2700 2.33 ghz core duo is it possible to upgrade to a t7600 2.33 ghz core 2 duo. And if so would I need to make any mondifications to the main board ie jumpers.

Though both Core Duo and Core 2 Duo can use the same chipset (they use the 945PM chipset in T60 series) and the Core Duo/Core 2 Duo use the same type of housing package (478-pin Micro-FCPGA and 479-ball Micro-FCBGA), you will find some pin layout incompatibility between these 2 processors (Core Duo vs Core2 Duo)

The 478-pin Micro-FCPGA for Core Duo differs a little bit from Core 2 Duo; the keying pins are different, and it means that you will have some problems inserting the CPU into the socket. The pin layout is also not exactly compatible. ( But if you push hard enough, it will fit!! ;-P )

The 479-ball Micro-FCBGA looks exactly the same, thou you can install the CPU in the socket phisically, you still have the problem with the pin layout incompatibility.

Going to a T7600 will be a simple drop in. Don't worry about the incompatabilities. What was posted above is for the new C2Ds with the 800mhz bus.

Just make sure you have rev 3 motherboard.

Revision 3. If you get CPU-Z and look at the mainboard tab you'll see Rev03. Based on your date it's a pretty good chance you have a Rev 3.
